There are restaurants in Kruger at the moment, so I can't for the life of me think why restaurants with a different name like Wimpy are going to effect the park so badly :hmz:

When going to the Kruger I want to see things unlike I see in the big city. I see Wimpy and Mugg and Bean every day. When stopping at a camp I would like to see a restaurant which is only found in the Kruger, I am trying to get away from city life for a while, just my opinion :hmz: :hmz:

Flogging a dead horse
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Flogging a dead horse (alternatively beating a dead horse, or beating a dead dog in some parts of the Anglophone world) is an idiom that means a particular request or line of conversation is already foreclosed or otherwise resolved, and any attempt to continue it is futile; or that to continue in any endeavour (physical, mental, etc.) is a waste of time as the outcome is already decided.

In all earnest, how will the far away places and parks
and camps be supported by this mission done Sanparks!!??

We barely serviced dire need in the hub of tourism, with all
due respect to service providers, correcting dismal scenarios!

How will Sanparks rectify conditions in all the other scenarios,

Tenders out for scooter deliveries, heck man, sounds like a joke,

Can Sanparks please elaborate on this and how they wish too
address this problem in the lesser far out of reach tourist attractions?

I feel Sanparks are trying to kill run- away fires, yet not addressing
the problem at large!!!

Sanparks you leave me in the lurch, I now need to travel all the way
From Punda only to arrive just to late for a W'''Y breakfast, then since
there I hang about hoping for a delicious steak egg and chips, from
Barons, only too russh back before gate closure???

Hey man, got my drift that's why I self cater!!!

What "other scenarios"? Please be a bit more precise.

Tenders for scooter delivery? Please provide a link and we can ask, but please remember this particular board is for discussion about Kruger National Park only. There are other board for the other regions.

And where has it been stated that you will be left in the lurch at Punda? I haven't seen anything about the restaurant closing?

H erectus, I really don't know where you get your information from but scooter deliveries in Kruger I think not

I really feel that these new franchise restaurants can only be an asset to Kruger, and must be given a fair chance

Will be so nice to enjoy a tasty meal at them

I also miss the old days although there are pros and cons here, but as stated, the deal has been done.

My concern is that it’s just the same staff, attitudes, management, etc operating under a different banner, but hopefully with more direction under stricter franchise guidelines.

I’m also concerned about the pricing structure as there has to be larger operational costs involved with running a franchise in KNP and is Sanparks just charging “rent”, etc or are they taking a percentage of the profit. Sorry if this is speculation, so delete if it’s an issue, but I can’t find the details about this here.

At the end of the day this doesn’t mean more development, just a replacement of existing and if it fixes the current issues, good stuff.

BTW, do any of you think that it take income away from the shops. When in KNP we self cater, but often run out and then utilize the shops rather than leaving the park for supplies , but now it’s possibly easier to just grab food at one of these spots for the last few days.

I'm in two minds about this thing. I stopped posting here because I heeded the call to give the effort a chance and see what comes of it. I'm not that impressed with these outfits outside of KNP and so I dont see why I would be cheerful about them when they are in KNP. But that's me and other people like the wraps and the coffee and the floury burger patties and whatever. That's fine.

But I just looked at the banner at the top of the page. And it says "SANParks - Africa's Premier Wildlife Tourism Destinations". And in that holy if holies you are going to be able to wander down to the corner and pick up a burger or a XL Combo or something. And the kids will be alright - just like they are at the malls in PTA and JHB.

And just above here someone mentions a delivery service. And a bunch of others say nay it will never happen. But I can tell you that 20 years ago most people would probably have thought it to be heresy to consider fast food outlets in the Park. So, dont pooh-pooh the idea that someone is going to engineer something like a delivery service.

I don't think cpmbos were available but burgers were, for many years, Moobox.
Most of the members of this forum complained about the quality of the burgers and other food.

I think you are doing the right thing giving this effort a chance :D

Out of all the things that I feel passionate about in regards to KNP, franchises in the park are low on my list. :) Give me a place where the service, prices, and quality are decent and I'm a happy traveller. I think these are three of the main complaints about KNP restaurants in the past. Lets see how the perform before being too harsh on SANParks looking to make a change for the better.

Yes MCook, if the new franchise retains the current kitchen staff, the situation will remain the same - lousy overpriced food. It was be interesting to see what happens.

IMHO I think that whatever decision SANParks make regarding restaurants in Kruger, they will never be able to please everyone.

I'm willing to give them a chance on their decision, even though I also miss the old days in Kruger :( , providing that the current staff are either replaced or trained all over. :rtm:

As far as my knowledge goes, franchises have strict rules whereby the franchisee must comply, so I'm quite convinced the quality we will get in Kruger, will be the same as in the bigger towns/cities.

Good luck SANParks, lets hope this turns out to be a big success.

I'm surely going to miss that freshly baked scones @ Skukz.
