GP, yes they did close for a few days but due to delays with the refurnishing team at LS, they are now still operating the restaurant here at Olifants. (until further notice)

Eish, we thought we'd lost it. Thanks.

I have just had 3 weeks in the Kruger - maybe I am too old and can remember how things used to be, but unlike many on this forum I think SANParks should be ashamed of themselves.

Punda Maria and Shingwedzi are currently brilliantly run, serving some really good food, with some really good staff. But they have no idea what their future holds. That is no way to treat anyone. And for those who think no one tendered - read the official documents. They were never included.

Mopani (who I believe have also taken over Berg end dal); give them control of everything! Superb food and great staff.

Letaba and Olifants - what a joke. Who in their right mind would have allowed both to close at the same time. I am intrigued that someone has found olifants open; when I was there a few days ago it had closed 2 days early (thus 'wasting' a long journey). And two friends found it closed several days later. Wouldn't even serve toast!

Satara - pretty miserable. Food stall not very good, served in a rather dingy part of the camp. And despite comments, absolutely no joined up thinking with the shop. Chill cabinet was virtually empty for several days, and when my friends invited me for a braai they had even run out of eggs. Pathetic.

Tshokwane; thank goodness for small mercies. What a superb spot for food, fantastic coffee (Shingwedzi is the only place to offer better!) and great staff. Shame I couldn't stay there!

Skukuza; the less said the better. The main restaurant has lovely staff - but is incredibly overpriced. The snack / coffee shop is a disgrace, and the less said about the Selati the better. Despite repeated assurances (from SANParks officials) that it would be open all the time it actually was (and still is) closed for all of my 3 weeks. They seem to have taken a superbly run restaurant, serving excellent food, given it (for some reason) to a set of complete idiots - and had to shut the whole thing down as there were so many problems. I do hope the rest of the franchising goes better.

Can't so anything about Pretoriouskop other than everything closed.

I found everything about Lower Sabie miserable! Bad coffee, unexciting snacks and not even somewhere nice to sit.

I am sure I have had great breakfasts at Crocodile Bridge within the last couple of years - but even that has been made to stop. Just pies and (good) coffee.

In summary - thank goodness for the northern 3 camps. Great staff and genuinely great food. Shame about the way the staff are being treated in the northern two camps though.

Richard

Hi Everyone

Since I will be in Lower Sabie next week Thursday, can I say that I will be having Mugg and Bean or is it still under renovation?

DB reported that the Olifants update was delayed because the renovation team hadn't finished at Lower Sabie. You may be lucky, you may not.

Well I think it's safe to say that when we go to Kruger in May, we will be able to enjoy breakfast one morning at the Mugg and Bean at LS

We are currently travelling in the park, and I received this email:

Quote:
Dear Guest

Due to the extent of the refurbishments of the restaurants in the Kruger National Park, SANParks hereby informs you as potentially affected visitor that the initial dates communicated for the opening of the restaurants in the Lower Sabie, Pretoriuskop, Satara, Olifants and Letaba Camps will not be met and is therefore extended.

Final dates when operations are expected to recommence will be communicated in due course.

SANParks appeals to visitors to be patient with this process as the end result will ultimately lead to a much improved dining experience in the Kruger National Park.

Please note that the shops will be open as usual.

Regards

Taken 11 Feb, but I am sure not much has changed since then.

Well I really hope the new franchises will be up and running by May, goodness me, they are certainly taking their time, doesn't look as if they are in a hurry to start making money :hmz:
