Sadly this is happening all over the UK also. A friend of mine swears he locked his car last month and when he returned he was astonished that an ipad from the boot and the satnav in the glove compartment had been stolen. I bet his car was jammed as there was no evidence of forced entry.

Wherever you are in the world - check to make sure the car is locked before walking off..

Graham, it certainly sounds like it. The horrible thing is getting insurance to pay for stolen goods without proof of a break in.

The way most remotes work is with a high frequency radio signal

I recommend actually watching your car to ensure it responds to the lock command. Once it is locked it would be very difficult for someone to remotely unlock it due to the scrambling and code hopping used in modern systems.

Hope this helps.

I think you spot on with your explanation , for our not so electronic educated . The way I figure it out is; that the problem begin if you walk away and use your remote , not seeing or hearing the actual auto close of the doors due to the yammering. The advice is ,stay at your car and make sure ,double check if it is locked.
In Nelspruit this type of incidents did not start long ago and at most of the shopping centers the public are now warn against this . It might be that the criminals are looking for new targets.

Dup, it was just a matter of time before Kruger became a target. Sadly, it is where most of us let down our guard. The criminal mind knows this.

MM , yes sadly so , but what some times get me to burst on cold sweat is the vulnerability of tourist moving through or around in our land. But that is, I think, everywhere in the world.

A pity it reached Kruger but hopefully a isolated incident

Yup, this happened to my SO too in Watford.
She went out one evening with her friends. And came back to her car and the boot had been cleared out. She says she is sure she pressed the remote.

In my car there is a physical lock near the handbrake that overides the remote release or key at the boot. So if you physically lock it there, you have to physically unlock it there.
Never use it t b h.

Sad To read that this sort of thing is happening in Kruger

When we were at Skukuza in early September I was surprised to see a car guard guy in the parking lot to the east of the store entrance. Orange vest and all.

Makes me wonder if there have been incidents like this at Skukuza?
