There is no problem with Malelane gate itself. The roadworks are in the gorge on the way to Nelspruit. If you come from Jeppes Reef you end up on the road to Malelane gate anyway!

They are working right across the Matsulu junction and I am sure that causes longer delays juggling junction traffic as well as the main road. I am sorry for the fruit and veg traders.....nobody is stopping there as they are in the roadworks area.

I passed through on Friday morning from Nelspruit to Malelane had a 35 minute wait when I passed through yesterday coming back from Malelane it was only 6 minutes! The stop and go distance was also a lot shorter the second time around. I saw on the project board that their contract ends September 2014 so they should be finishing soon.

if we decide to check in at Croc Bridge instead of Malelane, would these roadworks still bother us?

thanks

They are in the gorge between Nelspruit and Malelane and due to be completed in the next month or so ice, so if you are not travelling in the area before then, you should be fine.

Lower Sabie 22/10/15 to 24/10/15

The work looks almost done most of the tarmac laid but no line markings yet. I drove back from BnD yesterday morning and waited just about 5 minutes at the stop and go. 60kmph speed limit, no overtaking and ZERO TOLLRENCE signs are all there BUT nobody cares about those signs and drive like mad! Whilst waiting I also noticed a sign informing that work should be completed by the 11 October 2014.

Roadworks N4 to Malelane Gate

Unread postby IanMcC » Sat Oct 18, 2014 10:05 am

Has anyone got any news on the roadworks on the N4? I saw a blog a few days ago reporting a sign that the roadworks are due to be finished in 13 October. Is the road now clear?

Can confirm ICEs' statement. Also passed there yesterday, waited about 40min at the stop and go.
