Coming from Malelane you turn left onto the R38 towards Barberton and then immediately right onto the "Boulders" Road. It then brings you back onto the N4 just past the KaNyamazane Road

But be warned it is very narrow and twisty and you still land up coming out in the middle of the east roadworks. I will not use it because I feel that one taxi trying to use it as a rat run might well be one taxi too many for me.......and I have even seen trucks try to use it.

Are there any road works east of the r38? ie between the r38 and malelane. Leaving for kruger on Wednesday and staying at berg-en-dal, so would need to enter at malelane as I dont know how much time I will have.

Was considering going via barberton R541, R38, R40, R38 before joining the n4 again but would only make sense if I miss the road works.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the info ecojunkie,
Think I will give this diversion a miss then.

I used both roads recently. I would rather stick to the N4 (you only loses about 20 mins). The road between Whitriver and the gate is narrow and congested with slow driving taxis and local traffic. Also lots of animals and people on that road. Not a safe road in my opinion. Drive safely!

We were obviously lucky when we used the Boulders road as only saw one other car. Guess it depends on the time of day - we did it at 14h00 on a Thursday

Today did not find it too bad. Spent about 20mins in total in queues, and only took a long time through the east section on the way back because of a very slow moving (?road-worthy) car.

We are going to the park this weekend. We sleep at croc bridge friday night. What will be the quickest from heidelberg with all the roadworks? I see that someone mentioned a route pass ngwenya lodge? Is that faster than passing through komatipoort? We're only leaving at 13:00 so we don't have time to waste as it is.

Take the road past Ngwenya lodge, it's far faster and you don't have to go into Komatipoort

To add to my above post, just plan extra time to get through the stop go's between Nelspruit and Malelani, could take anything between 20 mins and an hour to get past them

About 10km before Komatipoord you will see a sign turning left off the N4 saying Ngwenya lodge, just follow the road and you will come out about 6km from Croc bridge gate, it's a new nice road all the way

Thank you very much. I remember now. Youre gonna have to turn right again from this road otherwise you'll go straight into the other marloth park gate?

We're gonna go via bethal hendrina carolina badplaas barberton and then turning onto the n4 just before the tollgate at malelane
