It took us over 2 hours to get from Nelspruit to CB, the stop go's between nelspruit and malalane held us up big time   maybe we were just unlucky

I think it depends on whether you hit it as it turns go or stop! And being long distances it takes a while for the traffic to clear too. I have caught both as they turned go and had scarcely any hold-up, but also had a 2 hour journey.......

Hi,

Any update on the road works between Nelspruit and Malelane?

I'm going to the Kruger next week Saturday, we were thinking of going through Phabeni Gate instead of Crocodile Bridge or Malelane.

Travelled that way yesterday. In the morning (leaving Malelane about 5.30am) the trip took approx double normal time, and the same in the evening (leaving Nelspruit shortly after 4pm). It felt worse in the evening because there was much more traffic. I caught the first roadworks as the light changed, but sat a long time at the second, and there was a 3km queue of cars waiting on the other side.

Will go that way again tomorrow and Friday :(

Rather use Phabeni gate.
We were held up for the best part of an hour yesterday.

Hi JenB,

I'll definitely take your advice and go with Phabeni Gate.

Thanks

Can someone please remind me how to get up to Phabeni from the N4. Only exited from this gate.
And also, this was before the Nelspruit bypass.

What exit do I take?
Route numbers?
Is it sign-posted

Thanks

Hi Yoda

My favoured route to get to Phabeni/Kruger Gate is to go via Sabie. Take the N4 to Nelspruit as usual (taking Schoemanskloof or the Waterval Boven route) then take the R539 towards Sabie/Rosenhaugh, you then join the R37 and carry on towards Sabie, you then join the end of Long Tom Pass just before Sabie on the R532. Once in Sabie, Hazyview will be very well signed you will take the R536 towards Hazyview. When in Hazyview Phabeni and Kruger Gates will be well signed posted and you will then Turn past the mall in Hazyview to carry on with the R536 right to Phabeni gate.

Its slightly longer than the usual route but more scenic and quiet. Roads are also in a great condition.

On the N4 as you get to Nelspruit you take the Nelspruit Northern Bypass. Take the R37 R40 White River road. Just follow the signs to White River. As soon as you go through White River you carry on, on the R40 towards Hazyview.

Hope this helps

spargish, PetraJ,

Thanks for the advice.

We will be going to Kruger in a month. Can't wait

Not keen to sit in a traffic jam for hours, so will look into the options you have given me.
Thanks

TRACassist have advised us that there will be no stop\go's in the gorge from 12 December to 3rd January - thank goodness!

That is good to hear.

The N4 to Melalane is my preferred route.

Have to tackle it again tomorrow and Friday.....wish there was another route from Malelane to Nelspruit! Going around through the park, or even via Barberton would take even longer than sitting in the roadworks queues and use more fuel.

Last Friday we took Boulders Road and it certainly saved at least a 30 minute wait. It is only 6kms longer than going direct on the N4 but you do miss the stop/go
