Dear all,

Please may we follow this and possibly gather more information. I am a regular visitor to Lower Sabie and have had many leopard sightings from this area. In fact I regularly see the same leopard around Sunset Dam and have some lovely pics of him.

Does anyone have any idea which leopard this is or any information?

Regards,

Sean

Agree, and hopefully have a happy and success story ending.

But I do believe SANParks will do everything in their power to save the animal.

Dear SeanP

Thank you very much for your concern about this Leopard. Please note that the section ranger at Lower Sabie is aware of this incident and has since set up a cage to capture this Leopard so that they can take it to Veterinary Services to remove the snare.

Well spotted SeanP. Snares are terrible things, my dogs used to get caught in them regularily when I was out riding. I had to keep a small pair of pliers on me at all times. Wonder if the leopard got caught in it outside the park or inside?

Hope the damage isn't too bad.

Are snares a problem in the park boundries?

Thank you Stephens,

Looking forward to a happy ending but snares can be lethal!

I took the following two images of him early morning on 7 Oct, I immediately phoned Lawrence (The Lower Sabie Ranger) whom I accompanied to the scene within minutes. By the following day he was still having some trouble catching the leopard, but I am sure all has been sorted by now, sure someone on the forum could give us feedback, if not, I'll call Lawrence and find out what he outcome was.

I have just spoken to Lawrence, sadly the leopard still has not entered the cage for capture. :hmz:

We can only hope that he does before succumbing to the deadly snare.

I can still stomach if he was injured by another leopard, lion, or whatever, but to be caught in a snare set by inhumane poachers........ That is just down right wrong. :naughty:

This is terrible. We were in Lower Sabie for two weeks during September. We saw a beautiful leopard 1 km from the gate. He was lying next to the road and looked at us with that beautiful eyes before disappearing into the bush. I was so proud of the photos that I took of him, but now I feel sick thinking that it might be the same leopard.
Does anybody know what happened to the leopard?

Hi Janeli. Do you have a full face shot of your leopard that you can post here? We are still awaiting a happy ending on this one. My friend is driving in the park this weekend and will hopefully get an update from Lower Sabie. Unless someone else has news?
