Still not caught and helped... No news! I guess no news is good news!

Dear All

In the past three weeks our rangers dedicated their time and went out of their way to try and search for this animal, but up to so far nothing has been found. We believe that the animal is still alive, as we have not found any carcass around Lower Sabie. We would like to thank everyone who really shown interest and willingness to rescue this animal. We still urge everyone who has information that could assist in capturing this animal to come forward and alert the Lower Sabie: Section Ranger.

Thank you for the update. Is there any kind of leopard identification study being done around Lower Sabie? If so has the snared leopard been identified?

Still no news of our leopard? I keep thinking about this leopard and what happened to him.

It is a tragedy.

I have some inside news but not sure how accurate it is. Apparently the leopard is still alive. It is a known leopard and its territory is the Lower Sabie area. According to eyewitnesses the leopard is still able to hunt (has been observed successfully making kills) but is unable to hoist the kills into trees as the snare is preventing it.

This leopard is a true survivor as I first posted this thread some months back.

Thanks SeanP for the feedback. I appreciate it very much.
It is an amazing amimal!!
But how long will he be able to hunt? I fear for this animal.
Do you think he is in pain?

The leopard is still alive. We saw him on a night drive late last week, came right next to the car, about 2 km from camp on main road, snare clearly visible. He was sitting next to the vehicle for a long time, licking his wounds, seems he wanted us to see and actually help him. Very sad. The guide made no attempt to contact the ranger. We advised the ranger the next day to check.

The guides and ranger do not seem particular interested to help this poor animal anymore. I have been told they have tried to do all they can to capture and help him.

(In my humble opinion, I still think this animal can be helped - with volunteer assistance. But obviously not a priority for the people inside the park.)

wouldnt at a time like the above mentioned post, if a ranger had come along, he could have been darted and seen to? Or are they trying to lure him in a cage.

If I remember correctly they are trying to trap him in a cage and the leopard is just doesn't go into the cage. They apparently cannot dart him as the only one allowed to dart is the vet at Skukuza. But Skukuza vet never nearby for animal to be darted when seen & reported.
