We are coming to Kruger from USA and will be staying in the park for a week. Skukuza, Miyabati, and then a few nights at Mjejane. We have two nights before we fly out of Nelspruit, any suggestions of where to stay in the southern part of the park within easy reach of the Nelspruit airport.

I am guessing you mean Biyamiti and Malelane? Those together with Skukuza are all in the south of the park anyway and you will cover a lot of the same ground. You could look at Bergendal or Crocodile Bridge or Pretoriuskop but four camps all in relative close proximity to each other is not ideal. They are all lovely of course but it would be great if you could change Malelane to Satara and then come back to Bergendal or Croc Bridge before you exit. That way you would see more of the park. :)

If you are in Skukuza, already why not extend your nights there. You can still explore new roads from Skukuza as it offers lots of driving options. You could see any of the above camps mentioned on day drives from Skukuza. The less unpacking and packing the better.

Another possibilty is to change the earlier Skukuza to Lower Sabie and fit in Skukuza at the end..........

I agree they should definitely stay in Lower sabie and Id also make skukuza my last spot I also agree with Satara being in the mix, it will give them a broader spectrum of scenery and wildlife :)

Dear seashell,
I do not know where Mijabati is situated outside the Park, but I know Mjejane is in the area between Croc Bridge Gate and Malelane Gate. I will go with the suggestion that was made of either Pretoriuskop or Berg-en-dal. You can then exit at Malelane Gate.

:D

Dear Seashell

We have stayed in Pretoriuskop, Berg-en-Dal and Lower Sabie on many occasions, and all of them are excellent. My current favourite is Lower Sabie. I'd guess allowing 3 hours to travel from Lower Sabie to Nelspruit Airport should be enough.

When will you be coming to Kruger? We found that especially towards the end of summer (March, April, May) the grass in the Pretoriuskop-area can be very long resulting in the need for a higher vehicle in order to see better.

I agree with the before mentioned suggestions
Change your fist Skukuza nights, to either Satara or Lower Sabi
Then your last two nights to either berg en dal, or Skukuza.

I think it will depend on the type of accommodation you prefer?
Satara and Berg en Dal have bungalows, cottages and camping
Lower Sabi and Skukuza have bungalows, cottages, camping, safari tents and huts.

Welcome to the forum Seashell.

What time of the year are you coming, you didn't say. Could be important.

Even though it is near to the border of Kruger, the area around Croc Bridge is usually cooking. If it is the so called big 5 you are after - and most first timers are - then it is a great area to be in, plus wild dogs and cheetah.

Granted it is a bit far from Nelspruit and there is no restaurant there, but the shop does good take-aways.

Second choice would be Berg n Dal. Also big 5 & doggie country.

I hope we are able to write about this guarantee in 20 years. Perhaps the new anti-poaching co-operation agreement with Vietnam will help...

Welcome..

I know every one has there opinions but skukuza would be last on my list....

Firstly I would try Biyamati, small, quiet, nice setting, close to the gate and nothing like skukuza....but you might struggle to get in..

so then I would go for lower Sabie....3 directions to travel and explore, a great view from the restaurant.

Well thats my two peneth worth....

I hope you have a great trip

john

I certainly agree with John n Poppy about Biyamiti.

I have rather a soft spot for Pretorius Kop. It has some good drives and the camp itself is very pretty. It is possibly the most scenic area.

I have never stayed at Biyamati, but have heard good things about it.

MM, P'kop is my least fave camp in Kruger. I haven't had good sightings in the area.

Skukuza is good. It can be busy, but there are a lot of quieter roads that one can take. I did the LS road on Xmas day this December, and never had a problem with too much traffic.

Lower Sabie has a good reputation. Especially for Elephants.

And I stayed at B & D this past December. Although general game was a bit scarce at times, I did see the Big 5, all within 1 drive.

Scenic it is, but in the wet months the grass is high and lions 2 metres from the road are invisible unless you are in the game drive vehicle - they you see their backs.
