I have not seen the letaba and shingwedzi in full flood for so many years. Thinking of visiting next weekend and hoping the water level dont drop too quickly. Or will i be too late?

This was the view from the causeway over the Letaba River on the H14 yesterday morning. It's usually almost a dry river bed!!
It was just passable, but we have had heavy rain all night and this morning in Phalaborwa, so I would imagine it is even worse by now. Take care all who are in the park at the moment!!!

I just pray that Kruger will be okay. Last year they coped wonderfully. Lesego is a star again. I hope our infrastructure stands the water. I pray all people and animals are safe and life gets back to normal. On a not so nice thought I wish the pachers would be swept way!!!

Pafuri Camp now evacuated (that staff, that is, guests were moved out several days ago). I also understand that the Pafuri border post has been evacuated too, with everybody holed up at TEBA.

Philip, Dr Mabunda once said something that has stayed with me - he said this after the 2000 floods. (And I cannot remember word for word what he said now, but the essence was this):

The animals have instinct to protect them.

The animals moved to higher ground long before the humans knew what was happening. The hippos and crocs moved out of the rivers. All this rain is good to wash out disease in the rivers and clean the rivers.

I (me) am sure this rain is going to be good to clear the anthrax too.

Still raining heavily here Mads, in Phala, and has been for 36hours non stop....also high winds. Letaba River very high. :cry:

We are so far apart and still trying to cope with nature's moods. Nature will keep us humble. :pray:

I heard now on the news that 200mm has fallen again in the Pafuri area.. and the Mutale river (a tributary of the Levhuvhu) is normally 3m wide.. at the moment it is 150 m wide :slap:

It seems that the most northern area is worse than southern area... My heart goes out to all in the area.. I am especially thinking of Frank at Pafuri picnic spot and Pafuri Camp. Another 90mm is forcasted for tonight...

I wish I could fly like an eagle to view this..... :rtm:
