The pic's are devastating - what the folk at Shingwedzi must have gone through????

RobertT, the exact thought about the chairs went through my mind :) They have been around for years and they always seem to stay put. I noticed the exact same thing (the chairs) at Tshokwane in the 2012 floods. It was closed they were rebuilding just about everything and the old faithful chairs were waiting on the outskirts of Tshokwane to be put back in their places - amazing!!

indeed spargish. A huge  to each and everyone of them!!

I too would be there in a flash unfortunately too far. But know that our thoughts are with all in this recovery time. We wish u well...and hope families can be restored and back together sooner rather than later..

In 14 weeks we there....if we can do anything please let us know of needs :hmz: .

Can we bring anything over for perhaps some children in the villages in Kruger ???

I've been following here all along. The damage as shown by the pictures is just UNBELIEVABLE! And to think - there was talk on this forum of Shingwedzi closing down due to drought in December - how ironic! :?

Are there any pics of Wilderness' Pafuri Camp? Is the place still standing? So glad I went in Sept 2012...

I feel sorry for the people that are affected. Hope your lives come back together soon. :gflower:

But on the other hand I find this just awesome, beautifull, and astonishing how Nature just takes back it's own.

Rooies, I was in Xai-xai 9 Feb 2000, this will not do the same damage I hope.

Wow, I can't believe the damage at Shingwedzi, My family and I were there over Christmas and it was so dry. I hope everyone is alright and hopefully Shingwedzi is restored to its usual self soon.

Hopefully the rain will stop soon to allow for the cleanup to start, if I could get off work I too would assist if needed. This is truly very sad.

Good luck to all that are there and be safe.

Of course some chappies do not listen to this warning/rule/request and there is a pic of someone stuck in a river (in their vehicle) that needed SANParks to rescue them.

It breaks my heart to see those photos....we were there in December when it was still mostly dry, though some rain had helped to fill the causeway at the back of the camp, so that we could see some amazing birds.

Shing has always been my favourite camp............I am old (ish) and disabled, but if I can help in anyway while we are in Phalaborwa till end of Feb, just ask!!

Shocked and stunned at the damage to Shingwedzi, a camp I love dearly. Thankfully all staff rescued. I was there in the 2000 floods, and this is awe inspiring.

Also prepared to help in any way, if Sanparks can use us. Of course, sitting some 40 kms north of Xai Xai I might not be able to get there for a while...believe it or not, have seen no official warnings yet about the potential flooding downstream in Mozambique.

Some more pictures from die verre noorde, as promised.

The following three pictures were all taken around 3 p.m. yesterday, January 21st.

Image
H1-9 Tar road (well, former tar road), looking south towards Luvuvhu Bridge.

Image
As above, looking southeast.

Image
As above, looking east. Note pieces of tar floating around.

Image
Limpopo River. The river itself is in the background. The line of trees sticking up is the riverine gallery forest (note how tiny the big Baobabs look!), in the foreground is what used to be the series of pans on the floodplain, now one huge lake!

Thanks Johan, just phenominal.

I do think that peeps who don't know the area will not really see it for what it is, but being there this December, it is just awesome.
