As the last hoot of an eagle owl & the prrt of a little scops owl, make way for the almost indescribable array of bird calls to welcome the new day, kingfishers, francolins, doves, hadeda ibis, hornbills, etc, etc, the list goes on.

Finally the suns lukewarm rays welcome the break of dawn, the
air is crisp and the veld has a certain aroma, an aroma that leads one back time & again.

The new day under the sweltering African sun has come, for many a chance to spot an elusive predator or to remark at the abundance of prey!

But here comes my argument, is it not at times the smaller creatures and prolific birdlife in and around camp that leaves the fondest of memories with many a Kruger fanatic?

So on your next trip to the park, rather than joining the other weary travelers on an early morning game drive,

rather try this;
Grab your favourite bird guide and a pair of binoculars and stroll along the camps perimeter.

Return to a lovely cup of coffee and a rusk, after your stroll!

Take in what is so often forgotten
in the early morning rush,

After all isn't rushing what city life is all about!

Dreaming of Kruger:

I absolutely love getting up very early and going to stand outside on the veranda, preferably with a nice mug of coffee and just listening to the sounds and as the light slowly gets brighter seeing how the scenery changes and unfolds before you and the dawn chorus begins. Magical time of day. 8)

My all time favourite early morning camp has to be Sirheni, the vast array of birdlife and abundance of game (in & around) the camp is worthy of an early morning stroll along the
perimeter!

A chance to take in what nature has to offer, the sights, sounds & aromas of the African wilderness.

So which is your favourite?

Dreaming of Kruger!

Probably Lake Panic, or the causeway just at the back of Shingwedzi Camp.

I would have to go with Lower Sabie, it may be one of the larger of the camps, but I truely love it. Have been woken by the sounds of lions chuffing and hyenas barking and I sat listened and watched the sun come up. Just slightly different to the sounds back home in England. Roll on next year when I can visit again.

Punda Maria and Witsand waterhole. Fantastic place to watch the bush come alive.

Love the early morning sounds wherever I am...
I might be out of step here  but at Pretoriouskop I watched workers going to work happy to start their working day with chat and laughter...

Shingwedzi: for the beautiful morning drives along the river, from either gate.

Tamboti: for a cup of coffee & rusk on the deck, whilst Francolins cackle and wake up everything around them.

135 days until me next trip... *sigh*

If we are in camp after the sun rises(which would be a rarity)
it would have to be Tamboti or Punda in the safari tents
