I wish it had! Could prevent head injuries when you are 2m tall and go over humps and rocks while speeding in KNP

Probably because they have no brains and think they "I is are for special"

Seen as we on the topic of park rules: I cannot find/get results for "Seatbelts"

I assume and "probably" am right, that seatbelts are also to be warn in the park and yes, I know there is a specified speed limit (since I can remember)

Sorry to wonder off "topless" topic.

One of the Seatbelt topics

The speed limits in the park are 50kph on the tar roads and 40 on the gravel roads but I recommend much slower than that for good sightings.

Neuro ,in fact , the road rules are the same as for the rest of South Africa , but this one ( seat belts ) , where everyone just ignores it completely , and nobody checks either

On the seat belt issue, when we are game viewing, we drive at about 20kms per hour, so don't use our seat belts, but if we are travelling from camp to camp and need to drive at 50kms per hour, we have started wearing our seat belts, because if we have to break at that speed, we just feel it is more sensible to have our belts on.

At that speed we are not seriously viewing, just wanting to get from A to B, so don't find it restricting, and if we do see something interesting, we can soon stop and click off our belts!!!

It works for us, but maybe wouldn't suit everyone!!

On our last trip to KNP 2 weeks back, we came across 2 Hyena's, one was helluva playful, he came up to the car and tried to bite the side mirror :naughty: , my wife closed her window which i reckon was the right move as I'm convinced he would of stuck his head in the car if she hadn't (Who knows what he would of bitten then) ...
Sorry but these as wild animals, my family and I WILL NOT take that chance, .... :|

Hello all,

I do agree with most off you. I hust want to make another point that must people forget!

These type of rules are not just for the safety of humans BUT for the safety of the animals aswell.

To explain:
You drive in the park and your roof is down or you get out of your car at a sighting of a lion or leopard. The animal attacks you and hurt or kill you. Now what is going to happen to the animal??? The animal are starting to see humans as a easy target and at the end the animal will have to be put down. And that is , for me , is unacceptible!!!!

So in my point of veiw this rules are there for the protection of humans and animals alike

Really? Ever been to Mana Pools? Anyone is allowed to walk anywhere anytime. They have a pretty decent track record with only one fatality or so per decade, invariably due to gross stupidity.

Anyway, I'm against carrying a firearm in the bush. I've met everything and anything out there unarmed, often alone (hiding behind others is just not my thing), and always without a roof over my head.

The real topic here is about the rules and regulations , and not actually about any single person's ideas on safety .
The whole of human society have rules , called laws , but quite often some individuals " rebel" against those rules . Maybe he goes from the point of view that he is above the law , and as such it does not apply to him . Or maybe he thinks he is invincible , whatever . And you even find individuals who think that the laws of gravity do not apply to them , and that they can fly
Well , good luck to them , but , law and rules governing it still applies , even to those individuals .
So who cares about what people do at Mana Pools ? It does not concern us here . Not in the slightest

Yes Johan I have actually been there, lets count.....5 times to be precise...

Now you tell me, what is the density of animals there compared to KNP, and let narrow it even down more, to say around Skukuza, which have the highest leopard density in the whole world, or Satara, more so Nwanetsi area, which have the highes population of lions in the world...whats the chances of bumping into lions on a daily bases at Mana pools on foot alone, compared to when taking a stroll, alone, in the Nwanetsi area? Common get realistic here.

Readers, please note that the rules and regs for Kruger National Park in no way advocate, or encourage, ANY member of the public visiting the park to wander around the park on their own, nor to drive around the park in open vehicles. Animals DO, and have, attacked humans, even the most bushwise have been attacked or even lost their lives in the park.

And as my colleague asked a post or so back, lets remain on topic here now please.
