Seems like my reputation is too big.

This was an innocent and honest question.

I wonder for instance, if there are any crocs in remote parts of the Orange river?

....but BB you are such a tease a lot of the time, so you can't be surprised when you are sometimes misinterpreted!!

If it is an honest question, I have to say I have no knowledge of the Orange River and it's inhabitants.

BB, interesting question.

I am close to Lanseria and every so often there are rumours of crocs. We have a couple of hippos, for sure. The animal kind, that is. :hmz:

I once saw a water monitor, the biggest I have ever seen in my life about 10 metres from the Jukskei. A moniter that size could fuel rumours of crocs.

Take the Limpopo for example...you find the crocs a few hundred km west of the park.
And its not just a croc thing.
I rmember in 2005 when a guy was killed by a lion outside the Phalaborwa Spar at night. Also someone was driving on the tar road to Letaba and saw a lion dragging a man across the road.

And then there was that photo on facebook of an elephant at a mine in Phalaborwa!

Eish...Phalaobrwa is still the Wild West...you gotta love it!

While we were there last year, there were talks of 4 escaped lions in Phala, but it was never confirmed.

Nope, too cold for them. They like sub-tropical to tropical areas. After the floods of 1988, we discovered the skull of a hippo on the banks of the Vaal river, which flows into the Orange. I have read several books about presence of hippos in the Vaal system, but the blerrie Boere and Souties killed them all when they trekked into the interior.

Talking about the Boere and Voortrekkers. They were stupid to go with a wagon and oxen into the interior, and thereby suffered severe deprivation. If they had waited for a hundred years, they could have taken a train.

Guilty as charged.

Hey Rooies, you are on dangerous ground.
Somebody once said on the forum that there was a sign on the Orange river saying 'keep out' and those who couldn't read went on. The mods thought it was insensitive, but I thought it was funny, and was given the yellow card!

Maybe the crocodiles put it there......

It is a sign of an inferiority complex if one cannot see the humour behind the post. There is a word sometimes used.....(stop it Rooies)

Crocs are found in all rivers west of Kruger, and sometimes as far as Tzaneen they were found. Klaserie Dam is a good example, as I found crocs there a fortnight ago, and the dumb people swim and ski there. :wall: :wall: :wall:

What peeps don't realise is that nature reserves, farms etc abounds in the area west of Kruger. On our way to Hoedspruit from Orpen gat, on the main road 6km's from Hoedspruit we had a great Lion Hunt, next to the road 2 weeks ago. They were fenced in from the road, but it was still good.

I had Lions, hyena, BBJ and various other wild animals at my house when still staying in Phalagat.
