Hi, with 5months to go started to check the forums daily, taking notes which I hope will make our trip even better than I hope it will be!

Found today the Gallery of Shame and I've looked at about 200 photos, some quite frankly are unbelievable, people out of cars, hanging out of cars etc but there are some photos that actually I can't obviously see what is wrong, the headline says breaking park rules.

There are some really obvious actions we wouldn't do but I need to know all of the rules. So can someone point to the park rules on the website I need to read up on these so we know what not to do?

Thanks :hmz:

Some of them are not breaking the rules.

One obvious one on the gallery of shame that should not be there is when people park on the right hand side of the road at a sighting on the right hand side of the road. The rules state to park on the side of the road of the sighting, so traffic can flow on the non-sighting side, and not go make a U-turn and come back to the sighting.

Thanks Dr Phil, that's one I have learnt!

Can anyone tell me if the Park a Rules are on this site somewhere? Like this one DrPhil has explained I wouldn't have known this without him explaining, I would hate to find myself in the Gallery of Shame when we come back !

Merlin, you will receive a permit, when you arrive (sometimes at the gate, sometimes at the camp.)

This permit must be carried at all times, as sometimes there are spot checks, and please read it from cover to cover, as it has all the rules there.

I do hope you have a safe and wonderful visit.

Hi thanks Val, I was hoping to read the rules before we go? I'm sure we would absorb them better beforehand, once we get to that gate we can't wait to get going in the Park. That's not to say we don't read them we do, but think it's easier for us (and maybe others) to take in beforehand?

So if the rules are not on this website it might be a suggestion to add them?

Hi there Merlin. I hope that you have a lovely trip. :gflower:

If you adhere to the rules given at the gate, you will be more than OK. Rules are mostly about our safety and not disturbing animals. The most important is respect and decency. The rest falls into place.

Hi Merlin,

Welcome to the Forum.

If only more people were as conscientious as you by planning ahead wanting to know the rules before visiting.

See below a link to some general rules for visiting:
http://www.sanparks.org/assets/docs/tou ... ations.pdf

General Items to note:
1) No stretching out of the car or getting out of the car unless within designated area. If there isn't a sign saying it is OK to get out that it's not. Probably the main reason for posts to the Gallery of Shame.
2) Travel no faster than 50kph on tar roads and 40kph on dirt roads
3) Respect the animals and don't get too close, extra distance away from elephants (you might have heard or read about how visitors got to close to bull elephants in the past year). Not a pretty outcome; People in hospital and Sanparks put the animal down.
4) Alcohol consumption only permitted in camp. Only overnight visitors may bring any beers etc in to the park.
5) Normal road rules apply, you might see the traffic officer or the occasional.
6) Buy a Yellow Ribbon, affix it to the driver side Wing Mirror - You'll hopefully spot other cars with the same, which indicates that they are also Forum members.

Common sense should also prevail: If you are unfortunate enough to encounter a flat tyre, then provided it is safe and you wish to, change the flat our with your spare. I once had to help and somebody do this whilst his wife and mine merrily sat and read books in the car. Whilst we both thought our other halves were on the look out. Apply caution.

Most of all I hope that you have a magical time in Kruger Park. Take as many pictures & videos as your equipment allows and please write a trip report of your experience.

Thanks everyone, exactly what I needed! :gflower:

Elsa all ready upto speed on behaviour around elephants, came across a 'not happy' elephant at the beginning of our last visit, trust me I then looked up every bit of advice I could find on how to behave around elephants, if I can help it I don't want to experience that again, I'm sure he was playing but it was still scary!!!

Merlin11 I wish you a pleasant trip and many good :cam: opportunities . It is wise to be equipped with relevant knowledge, your favorite food and patience when going to Kruger 8) . In Kruger it is best to go slow and let impatience be the enemy of patience :). I also prefer viewing to elephants from a distance :| especially the grumpy ones.
