I would take the S90 from Balule towards Satara, then the S41 and along the S100 to Satara. (The alternative would be the S90 to the main road, also a lovely road). Then straight down the H1-3 to Tshokwane and then via the Orpen Dam to the H10 past Nkumbe lookout. The roads parallel to the H10 (Muntshe Loop and the Old Tshokwane Road, haven't got the road numbers here) are very worthwhile for the peace & quiet alone.

The roads between Lower Sabie and Croc Bridge are usually very good, take some time to travel the S137 to Duke's waterhole.

The Muntshe loop is the S122, after that I should take S28 Mlondozi loop, then take a break at LS and follow your trip to the S28, the dirtroad from LS to Croc.

Have a good trip!!

Finally! There were some cancellations in Lower Sabie, so I've managed to change my Hut (EH2) to the perimeter Safari Tent (LST2U) for two nights. Three units got freed.

So it seems that I'm good now with all my reservations in Kruger. Thank you very much for all your help!

Hello,

My last day in Kruger I'll be driving from Balulue camp to the Croc Bridge gates. It's less than 180 km, and I'll have most of the day to do this. Of course I can spend some time driving more around Balule, but I've read that even the main road toward Croc Bridge is great for wildlife viewing.

Perhaps you could recommend an alternative way to get from Balule to Croc Bridge to view the animals on my way out? What would be the best thing to do?

Thank you.

I would agree with Saraf. The S90 Old main road from Balule to Satara is a hit or miss road. But it is peaceful and always worth a try 8) The H1-3 is better for game viewing than the S37 or S36 alternatives to the East or West. The H10 is a fantastic road! I favor it over the S29, 28 to the West, or the S128 to the East.
But the S28 is a must! A forum favorite. One of the best roads in Kruger 8)

Thank you.

I don't understand what happened. Yesterday I'd upgraded my reservation online in Lower Sabie from EH2 (HUT) to Safari Tent (LST2U). 3 units were available. This morning I've checked my reservations - it's back to EH2 (HUT), and Safari Tent (LST2U) is not available anymore. I'll call them tomorrow, I don't know what's going on.

Hi pva,

It would be best if you contacted reservations about this immediately, they can confirm any changes to your bookings.

You can find their details under Contact Us - Reservations

Thank you.

Yes, I'd called them as soon as they opened. They gave me the number for Web reservations and asked to call them. They were closed on Saturdays, so I've just called them today. They said that they will investigate this and let me know. So I'm just waiting now..

Thank you, but I don't think so. I've never heard from them, and the openings were gone anyway. I think that Sanparks online reservaton system simply isn't perfect. I was surprised that after I'd made an upgrade I wasn't asked for an additional deposit and never got any confirmation letter.

However, in two days 2 units of LST2U became available again, but only for one night. In fact one is still available today. This time I contacted reservations by email and they booked it for me. I'd paid an additional deposit, so now it's secured. So now I have one night in the perimeter safari tent and one night in the hut. I'll keep watching for cancellations, but if I won't get this tent for another night - so be it, it won't take me much time to move my stuff from the tent to the hut.

I'm happy that I've got ANY reservations in Kruger, so popular it is. And I've got almost everything what I wanted, so I'm lucky. It's bad that I'm not flexible with dates and must go during the school break. I see, for instance, that there are quite a few openings for the beginning of June 2013, but the end of June is completely booked almost in all camps. So I cannot complain.

About that. You'll need to be out of the tent by 10am and you won't be allowed to move into the hut until 2pm. One reason they don't really like people changing accommodation type within the same camp. You'll need to put your stuff into the car and drive around with it for a while. Sorry.

Thank you. Yes, I know. But I don't go to Kruger to spend the whole day in the camp anyway, so I'll go to watch the game. Or spend some time at the Sunset Dam - I'll see when I'm there.

But of course, if I have an opportunity to rent this tent for another night - I'll definitely will. So far this was best I could do.
