The first is from the bridge facing east. I have one of the west side too, but it is not such a great pic. The other was taken from one of the river loops on the S63.

Excellent photo's, DinkyBird.
We've visited the area in Dec'11 and to add to your photo's, I got some of the bridge with the beautiful trees.
It is such a beautiful place that we are going back there in Dec'12 again.

Clicking on photo will open HD image.

Taken in January 2012, about 2-3km downstream from the picnic site on the way to Crooks Corner. Can you see the impies drinking water or either one of the two fish-eagles? Ja, I know they're small  One of my favourite places on our little planet.

Very calming photos! I think I can see two Fish Eagles, small white dots in the trees, one on each side of the water, the one on the left is off in the distance.

Just love that spot.

I agree, that is definitely a pic I would have framed Johann!

Here are a couple of my pics taken from the bridge and also from the S63 river Road which we wander along at a snail's pace just loving the amazing views it offers.

Roan...............I sooo agree!!!! Can't wait to get back there.

Lovely photos everyone.

Now here comes a really big confession!!!

We visited Pafuri picnic site in 2002 and again in 2009.
Not only did we not know that Crooks corner was just a stone's throw away, but until I joined the forums, we thought that when we were at Pafuri we were lookig at the Limpopo River, not the Levuvhu!!!

Visited in 2011 and put all the above right!!!!

Hi James of the Jungle.
The whole area is full of surprises; Klopperfontein, Nyala loop and especially the road to Crook's Corner offer some fantastic birding. And the jewel in the crown is Pafuri picnic spot itself where you can just ask Frank (the caretaker and exceptional birding specialist) to show you around. The bridge over the Levuvhu river is also a favourite. . Enjoy! 8)

If you do, remember to have a good look around as well.

A few years ago I was driving north between the two bridges. There was a gaggle of people with binoculars and cameras on the north bridge. Halfway between the bridges, the local pride male suddenly came up the embankment from the east. When he reached the road he took one look at the crowd on the bridge, turned around and flopped down under a Large Fever Berry. This was in the middle of a hot summer's day. Not sure what was going on in the lion's mind, but none of the people on the bridge ever noticed him.

When the river is high, the north bridge is very popular with the local lions. You would be surprised how often they use it, even in the daytime.

Johan
