We returned from KNP yesterday. In the 9 days we were in the Park we drove past Sunset dam many times. Although there was the odd stork and one hippo there was also a strange smell coming from the water and nowhere near the number of animals and birds we have previously seen. It was always renowned for the size of the crocodiles that sunbathed on the banks and this trip we did not see one except for a single one in the water. Has anyone else noticed this smell and is there any way that we can establish why it is happening and has Sanparks been made aware of this really bad odour? I am just concerned that Sunset does not suffer the same fate as other dams which have been decommissioned after the water was found to be contaminated!

Ai Jan van Wyk .. your photos are so superb they make my heart ache for the bush! :naughty: :D

@Penny .. I hope the water is not contaminated .. Maybe pop an e-mail to them informing them .. prevention is better than cure if the water is contaminated ..

Thank you Kaapsedraai and Wild@Heart for your comments.

Agree about the water. End of December it still looks fine but that was after the rains.

May be open a thread and ask the question?

EG coming in for landing...(not so sharp but love the pose)

Jan, only if the hippo knows that the stork did its business on its back.... :hmz:

You have captured the scene beautifully. Another great one.
