An International Wild card for a family costs R 2,620.
For 8 nights you are definitely better off buying a card.
And you can happily buy it online.
Then SANParks has all the details they need beforehand.

Car rental you will have to do outside the park.
I don't know where you'll be landing, but you can grab a car at the airport.
Which is good as you will need to do some shopping in real stores anyway. ;)
Do a good search on the internet (or hope for a PM from a forumite) for the best deals.
Mind the insurance bit a little though.
Kruger is fairly okay on cars, but some rental people do not allow much on damages.
And you may have thorny branches saying hello to the car.

Hi all,
I'm trying to change one of our camps that is in the middle of our stay in Kruger using the Sanparks site. However, I cannot seem to do this without canceling all reservations after this day and then rebooking them.
I get a warning saying that my stays must be concurrent.
Emailing the park to book is useless because the camp sites are usually gone by the time they get to my email.

Is there a way to book sites without canceling all nights after the night I want to change, so as not to have a hole in the itinerary?
I am afraid of losing the camps in the later nights. Many thanks.

Book the campsite by itself, then phone and get them to sort it out.
It would mean having a credit but you could book an extra night or use it on a drive or activity.

Hi
had the same problem more then once
I booked for the new camp and after that has been confirmed asked reservations to cancel the one date and
refund the money
It always works
But always in time before any penalties
Quote:
Cancellations:
· Percentage is calculated on the client’s total reservation cost payable.
· Cancel within 30 to 15 days before arrival - 25%.
· Cancel within 14 to 7 days before arrival – 50%.
· Cancel within 6 days and less – 100%.

Hi all,
RobertT is right, if you are not able to make a call to reservations, you will need to email reservations to amend the booking.
Unfortunately we have checks and balances in place with regards to the concurrent accommodation and yes, this will inhibit any changes in the middle of a stay.
You can email reservations@sanparks.org for further assistance.

Hi Steven
Could you please confirm if the system will allow the following.

Assuming I have a booking for five days at different camps I could first cancel a particular unit online for any of the dates and then go and add another unit that reflects as available for that same date.
If for some reason the replacement unit is not available when doing the booking if I then cancel the complete reservation amendment the original cancelled unit would automatically be added back to my reservation. This does imply all the changes are made during the same session.

I suspect this will only work if the alternative accommodation completely replaces the booking being cancelled.
I am not sure if it is possible to cancel one night out of a few nights booked at a specific unit?
If not this would be a great update to consider to make planning a trip online easier without impacting on your checks and balances.

From what I have experenced, the booking once made and saved and paid, a reservation number generated.
We cannot make changes to it, it has to be done via H/0 on I presume an overide.
Think part of problem is it talks to the financials, so if you are needing to pay more, it would not be a problem, but if refunds are needed then it could be problematic.
Another problem would be if people are changing regularly throughout with different priced accomodation.

Thanks Robert.
I have however made numerous changes to past bookings via online amendments.
My problem is that I am seldom in a position to book far in advance so have to book whatever is free and frequently want to make changes in the last 30 days before utilization when more suitable accommodation becomes available.
Also as it is normally after-hours when I have the time to check for available accommodation by delaying until the next day to phone or email means that any available unit has a good chance of being taken.
A work around for the OP's problem for the future would be to ensure that each camp is booked as a separate reservation allowing easier modification but that sometimes incurs unnecessary modification fees that would not have been applicable if the whole stay was treated as a single reservation (only applicable to changes made in the last 30 days)

· Reservations made within 31 days pay 100% within 5 days of making the reservation.
· Reservations made within 5 days of arrival are to be paid within 24 hours.

 Cancellations:
· Percentage is calculated on the client’s total reservation cost payable.
· Cancel within 30 to 15 days before arrival - 25%.
· Cancel within 14 to 7 days before arrival – 50%.
· Cancel within 6 days and less – 100%.

 Modifications:

· Modify within 14 to 7 days before arrival – 50%.
· Modify within 6 days and less – 100%.
· When modifying the arrival date to an earlier date, no modification fees will be
charged, unless the total cost is decreased and the arrival date before the

Hi Mikef,

Regarding policies and procedures on bookings, I will have to get authoritative word from the right parties involved.

Mikef, thanks for your feedback, some positive constructive feedback there, with regards to the "middle" of booking amendment, there are system limitations on this and that is why booking changes as these are needed to be amended by reservations directly.

Some challenges exist in trying to accomplish your suggestion but I have noted it and will discuss this to see if we are able to implement some sort of change on this.

Thanks

Hello,

We would like to book for a period in september or October 2013.
We read that we can create an account and then make a reservation for the nights
in the various camps.
If we do this we can still make changes? For example: an other cottage at the camp?
And if we do this and we get a message with the changes, is this final??
And when are the reservations final, after we see them in our account or if we do a deposit?
If we pay in advance must we get a confirmation from SanParks or some vouchers?

Marlies

Hi Marlieswout, welcome to the forum.

I don't normally use the online tool for booking, I tend to use the email option but I will try to help.

Firstly you can only use the online booking for up to 9 months in advance.
Booking now for September or October next year (11 months in advance) will have to be done over the phone, by email or in person.

Booking on line you will need to pay all the cost in advance.
I do not know what happens if you want to change the reservation and I'm not sure if you get a credit against your account or if you get a refund.

If you make the reservation by other methods then you can still use the online system to pay your deposit and final payments.

I will try to see if I can get some answers to your questions.

Actually Val, this will be changing in the near future. See this announcement from earlier this week.

There is a series of video tutorials on how to use the online booking system that may provide some answers. The can be found here.

The usual way it happens is:=

1.Make booking and receive Deposit Request Letter for first deposit.
2.Pay first deposit and receive another Deposit Request Letter with altered amount, showing first deposit paid, and how much and when the last deposit is due.
3.Pay last deposit when due and receive Confirmation Letter that shows a zero balance.

Hope that helps.
