Hey Kruger Fans

So I am heading up to Kruger at the end of July for 1 week, and I've been following the kruger sightings on my bb and facebook for nice sightings. Of coarse animals always move around but I have mark several areas where they have be spotted often in the week.

Where is a good road in Skukuza for wild dog and leopard sightings?
Lately the S65 and S1,the H1-1, H4-1 is very active with leopard. I really wanna see wild dogs in the wild.
Im at Skukuza for 5 nights and then move to Satara for another 4 nights.
Satara I know the S100 is must and the H7.

So hopefully you will be able to give me ideas on nice roads to find early morning leopards and wild dogs

Thanks
Cole

Cole, it sounds like you already know the answers :D
Skukuza has been the best rest camp for wild dog sightings this year (I also stalk those sightings on my BB with obsessive commitment). All the roads around Skukuza are good for leopard and wild dogs! You just need to try keep track of the movements. According to my updates the Phabeni pack was seen on the S1 three days ago, and the Skukuza pack (the huge one) was seen on the H1-1 very close to Skukuza. The Wild dog sightings have become scarce :hmz: It must be a time of year thing :hmz:
But the H4-1 has been producing many leopard sightings! Every day without fail. 8)

I would say your chances of wild dogs and leopard at satara are far less than at Skuks! But I like to look at the pin up board and speak to the rangers when I reach satara! Ask them if the Orpen pack has been seen lately and where :D The H7 is your best bet to see them. Although I have seen the pack on the S39 to timbavati and the S36 nhlanguleni picnic site. Both the S36 and S39 coming off of the H7 are hit or miss roads. Not the most productive in the Satara area at least.

Hopefully luck is on your side

I will be updating sightings on the Kruger Park Sightings page on FB and on BB when I'm there. I will also make a forum of pictures of my trip as well. I hope that the animals will come out in full force when I arrive there.
I will also keep people updated on the forum of sightings in Skuks and Satara.

I will be getting my Kruger sightings stickers soon and the ribbon.

There's nothing better than "Wildlife" specially at Kruger itself.

Although there are definately certain roads and camps that favours sightings for these two animals, I have really seen them accross the Park.

A good example: My brother entered the Park through Orpen yesterday and between the boom gate and the Camp, they spent 10 minutes with a leopard.

Hi Cole

The S114 at the Skukuza end has been very lucky for Wild Dog in the last year or so.
Sadly I haven't seen them, but each time we've been in the area, we have had several people tell us they saw them!!!

Hope you have a lovely trip and good luck with the doggies!!

Cole,

I was in Kruger recently (and will be back again in just 11 more sleeps!!!) and heard that the Skukuza pack were denning somewhere around the Stevenson Hamilton Memorial though not visible from the road. They were seen on a few occasions on the S114 at that time (at the beginning of June) - I wasn't fortunate enough to see them but did have some great sightings of packs around the Berg en Dal area.

Don't forget your Yellow Ribbon and also add your name to the "When will I see Yellow Ribbons in Kruger" thread ... viewtopic.php?style=2&f=69&t=33456

Have a great trip!

So there's my answer, the last sightings near Skukuza for wild dogs was at 18:10 today 06\07\12 near Pretoriuskop. So maybe my chances of seem them is good. I will just have to keep my eyes wide open.

Hi Cole,
Wild dogs in Dec 2011, March 2012 and May 2012 - early mornings and late afternoons on the Numbi Road near the Napi turnoff.

If I read the posts in this thread it seems as if they are visible again. Hope to see your photos of them in July

The H4-1 get my vote as well.

Saw a leopard stalking and chasing wild dogs in the road.
