Here are my final few photos of the flood aftermath.

This is where the S36 crosses the Nwaswisontso river. A fallen tree and a sand bank block the road.
Image

Taken on the S125. On this tree trunk you can see where the water level rose to and the river bank is way down there.
Image

Balule bridge was blocked by flood waters and a massive sand bank.
Image

On the Timbavati road some forumites might recognise this railing that was erected about a year ago. Rain water flowing into the river had caused a massive land slide into the river bed far below. I think they are going to have to move the railing back a number of metres.
Image

Nearby this Apple Leaf tree is clinging to the edge of the cliff. It might well have toppled over by now!

And those are my memories of an awsome event, something I will never forget.

Awe inspiring pictures ADW, thanks for sharing them with us.

Seems these floods occur every 12 years, we were in the park in 1988 when the Letaba almost burst its banks (the pictures were on the wall of the Letaba restaurant for many years) and again about 2 weeks before the 2000 floods. The rivers were very full even then.

I remember after the 2000 floods, the Sabie river had picked up one section of the Lower Sabie bridge and dumped it about 20 metres down river.

The power of water is awesome!

Many thanks for sharing these pics adw. Knowing this area so well, I find the changes brought about by the presence of water incredible. I'm glad your pics are going to be preserved in the SANParks archives.

Incredible pics, thanks for sharing. I still can't believe I was there a week before and it was so hot and dry.
