I wonder what the hottest July temperature is?!

We did a 3 hour walk last month and although it was pretty warm and sunny, we did not even break into a sweat. The lack of any humidity can make even high temperatures comfortable. 30 degrees in Singapore with max humidity feels terrible though!

Sorry Graham but I do not know what the hottest July temperature is but maybe someone will. I am also wondering how many days on average does it get to a stage where extreme discomfort is experienced in Kruger like this:

Richprins wrote:Temperature is not the only problem, as humidity and wind play a factor too!

ie, it is murderous when the hot wind blows...the only time I've actually left the Park for such a reason!

December 1999, Shimuwini. The day time temperature was 42 on 5 consecutive days. The ceiling fan was useless and I had to carry my bed outside to sleep at night. One night I woke up and saw a 'hyena' walking up to me. I was petrified but could not move. As this animal approached me, I thought it would be useless to run away, because it would have caught me easily. Then the moon broke through the clouds and next to me was the resident duiker. :k

Anyone who reads the GGGG thread knows how much SO and myself love our food!!!

Well one year at Letaba camp it was 45c (according to the notice board) and we couldn't be bothered to braai.

We found a tin of ham in the shop and a few manky tomatoes, and that was dinner.

KNP is sacred. I am opposed to the modernisation of Kruger and from the depths of my soul long for the Kruger of yesteryear! 1000+km on foot in KNP incl 56 wild trails.200+ nights in the wildernessndloti-indigenous name for serval.

Thank you Ndloti, the tables are very interesting  . From your tables it looks like in summer Letaba Camp is both the hottest and the driest :) . I think perhaps that some of the high temperatures mentioned here are not experienced ongoing but rather on exceptional hot days as the averages in the table appears to be much cooler 8) but what I know is that it can be verrry hot in Kruger   .

Yes Grantmissy, you are quite right.

The average temp would be lower, because even the lowveld has the odd cold front sweeping through in summer, so that lowers the temps dramatically, therefore averaged out hot days and cold.......you see the results from Ndloti's charts.

We go to Kruger every December and last year was VERY HOT!

In Satara after about a week we just gave up and so did the AC in the caravan. We then moved to Croc Bridge, found a nice big tree and stayed for another week.

Mind you, we were in Letaba Dec 2009, and it was freezing.
There was so much rain the camp almost flooded, and it was so windy many of the trees lost their branches.

Everyone was walking around looking miserable, and the take away was really busy, as a lot of people gave up trying to braai. :wall:

There again, we were there in 2010 and we fried!!!

The world weather has gone bonkers, so nothing is for sure.............though I think it's more likely to be hot than cold on average.

We will be there again this year, so I will wait with baited breath.

Can any one tell me what I can expect weather wise towards the end of November. I've been to Kruger several times but always in February. I understand it's hot, humid and rainy. But how much rain? Is it constant or intermittent. Rain's not a problem (I live in Britain) just wondered what I could expect.
Many thanks.

Gaz............as I just said in the previous post, the world weather has gone bonkers, so it is very difficult to predict the wether in Kruger these days.

However in November, it should be very nice by our UK standards.

The south will I'm sure have some rain, but it's not everyday by any means, and it was not at all humid last year when we were there.

The north is desperate for rain at the moment, and may or may not be lucky enough to get some in the near future.

Where were you thinking of staying?

Last year we had one or two cooler periods, when a cold front came up fron the Cape, but we also had some very hot periods. The rest was in between and very pleasant!!

Hope that helps.

That's great Crested Val. I just hoped it wouldn't be a constant downpour. We hope to be staying central somewhere, maybe Satara if there is availability. We have flights to Hoedspruit so Orpen Gate will be where we enter. We plan on staying four nights.
Being cheeky but do you have any advise/recommendations on the rest camps.
Many thanks for your help.
