Val - I took a group of guests from France to the Selati restaurant recently (26 December).

The service was great and the food was very good as well. The steaks that we ordered were cooked to perfection.

I had no complaints at all.

All in all it was a great evening and was enjoyed by all.

Have a great meal at Selati when you go -

We were there in November, Val, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were professional, efficient and friendly and the food was excellent. The chef made a point of visiting the tables to ask if everything was OK, well we were in the middle of a thunderstorm. The electricity went off for a while due to the thunderstorm but everyone just carried on, the kitchen staff just put on head torches and carried on cooking and the waiting staff lit more candles and carried on serving.

We don't really make use of the restaurants in Kruger. But we had dinner at the Selati Restaurant way back in 1993. it was one of our very memorable experiences in the park. I don't know whether it is still the case, but before service started, the train "left the station". Sound recordings were played and the dining saloon slowly rocked from left to right. It was so lifelike - actually unbelievable.

And the food was very good compared to what you were served in other park's restaurants those days. But we prefer to do the self catering thing and never had a meal in a Kruger restaurant again. I loved my pie and gravy at the cafeterias when each camp's cafeteria still baked their own pies. Skukuza's was the best and Satara's the worst. Nowadays all of them taste horrible as it is all Piemanns' pies.

I heard Nkuhlu serves good pies. Sorry for going somewhat off topic.

I can recommend the hake in lemon sauce. Or the pizzas, they've started up the proper wood-fired pizza ovens again. Wonderful aroma.

I'm glad to report that we had a very nice meal last night.

My daughter and I had prawns and the boys had steaks.

It had been a very hot day, and my heart sank when I realised it was an outdoor restaurant with no aircon!!!
However, when we explained my overheating problem, the manager put us at a table right by a huge fan, so that was fine.

Service was very quick, and with a smile.

All in all a good night out.

As I said Hilda, the only problem would have been the heat, but luckily the very helpful mamger sorted it out very quickly.

Forgot to say the Amarula Creme Brulee is worth checking out!!!
