Hi all,
just returned from KNP,but very quiet on the sightings.
However SO and I were leaving the park on monday 12 april, left Letaba at 7.10am,and were driving along the H9 when 16km from Letaba we saw a wild dog in the road.SO's camera went into overdrive. We then saw more on the side of the road feasting on a just killed impala,we must have missed the kill by minutes. We counted 8 dogs,4 adults and 4 young. We stayed with them for about 30 mins and had to drive off as we had to catch a flight to Madrid. The sighting was made more interesting when the dogs became agitated and we were joined by 7 irate elephant from the opposite side of the road. This was a family group and it became a little awkward when the eli's began to move towards the dogs and hence us.Fortunately the eli's moved off into the bush and we breathed a sigh of relief. The sighting was awsome and we were the only car for 25 minutes. All I can say is WOW
We have looked for awd's for 3 years in KNP and had been lucky enough to see one at the Matembeni turn off a few days before. We thought this was brilliant, but then on the 12th our dreams came true.
Thank you KNP.

Take care wherever you are,

PF and SO.

PF - that's awesome! :cam: I'm so jealous

Just the farewell sighting Carol was hoping for! I'm assuming then you made your flight. It was so good to meet you and SO. Looking forward to your trip report too!

We managed lions, but that's it - no other cats or doggies for this trip! There's always next time!

Came apon my first wild dogs in kruger on the orpen satara road +- 1 km from Nsemani dam. Counted about 25 dogs. It was awesome. They gave chase and killed a impala in front off us and we were the only people around. What a sighting. And then out of the blue a huge male lion came out of the bush and chased the doggies from theyre supper. Had to leave as we were almost late for the gate closing time. Very sad. Next morning only found impala jaw in road so think the lion won.

Our first time sighting "at last!" , Friday 16th April 07H25 on the S3 Albisini Road, near the junction with the Doispanne Road. We were with them until 09H10 when they eventually moved off into the bush. We watched them at times running briskly, darting in and out of the bush, resting up for a while. We witnessed the Alpha pair mating, plenty of stops where they all gathered and rubbed up against each other. Unfortunately no kill but altogether an wonderful experience :D

After years of never seeing a wild dog in Kruger, last month we saw them on 3 separate occasions. First on the Letaba to Phalaborwa gate road where they were on an impala kill on the roadside, then on the Skukuza to Lower Sabie road and finally in a quarry just off the Diosopane road. All very special - especially as we were stranded in Kruger for 5 extra days due to European airports being closed and the last 2 sightings fell in this time. (Needless to say we were devastated at that!!!)

I'm sure this has been asked a million times but anyone know of any active wild dog dens in kruger at the moment?

We saw a pack of Wild Dog on the tar road down to Crocodile Bridge from Lower Sabie in December 2009, pretty close actually to CB. From what I have read on the forum, this seems to be a fairly common occurance. (well as common as a sighting of Wild Dog can be anyhow  ). I read that they are also often spotted on the Crocodile River road, from CB to Malelane. I would thus conclude that there is a den somewhere around the CB area, but who knows where exactly.
