Who wants music when you have the sounds of the nature.

My favourite song, is waking in the morning to the sound of a Woodland kingfisher.

The unmistakeable call of a Fish eagle also reminds me where I am.

I totally agree! My favourite KNP song is the hippos singing me to sleep at Olifants or Shimuwini (and why is there no "sigh" smilie???)

Well, the title doesnt really mention having music in Kruger. And for me I think that what reminds me of Kruger and the whole Lowveld really is the Johnny Clegg "Greatheart" song. Cant remember if it was Juluka or Savuka era.

bondm, I think you have missed the point of this topic   , nobody listens to music while they are holidaying in the park, it is when we are back at home/work, when we hear a particular song does it remind us of the Kruger? Whoever listens to music while they are going on game drives is defeating the whole point of being in the park, this of course is my opinion

I think music without words would be more likely to conjure up KNP emotions, as I find my imagination is less free to wander when boundaries (lyrics in this case) come to the fore! Having said that, are there any songs specifically about Kruger? There are lots or pieces of music that evoke nature that I can think of, but alas nothing specific to Kruger - song or abstract piece.

I am sure that nobody on this forum would dream of playing music whilst driving in the park, but I have come across visitors with the radio playing the latest hits.

The song that reminds me of the Kruger is still of a Woodland kingfisher heard when watching a natural history programme on TV.

Getting closer by the day.

December is vacation time and it is also Christmas time. For this time of the year my Kruger song would most probably be Holiday because it is very "December appropriate".

Keane - Somewhere Only We Know

Is this the place we used to love?
Is this the place that I've been dreaming of?

It was their latest hit when I went to Kruger in 2004.
Hadn't been to Kruger for many years. And shortly after we got married, I took the SO there for her first visit.

Johnny Clegg: Spirit Of The Great Heart.

Chorus:
"I'm searching for the spirit of the Great Heart
To hold and stand me by
I'm searching for the spirit of the Great Heart
Under African sky
I'm searching for the spirit of the Great Heart
I see the fire in your eyes
I'm searching for the spirit of the Great Heart
That beats my name inside
Sometimes I feel that you really know me
Sometimes there's much you can show me
There's a highway of stars across the heavens
The whispering song of the wind in the grass
There's the rolling thunder across the savanna
A hope and dream at the edge of the sky
And your life is a story like the wind"
"Lose yourself in Nature and find Peace!" (Ralph Waldo Emerson)

do not let poachers take it away!

Born Free reminds me most of Kruger, but has been a favourite since the movie (giving my age away now) I can just see that pride pf Lions with 3 little cubs in tow walking up Skukuza to Lower Sabie Highway way back in 2009. Umpteen cars in a traffic jam but we all got a good view as they just kept walking. Born Free indeed!

Under African Skies; Spirit of the Great Heart by Johnny Clegg and Africa by Toto always make me think of Kruger. Actually any Johnny Clegg song takes me back to South Africa.
A great version of the Toto song Africa can be seen on Youtube at

Mine is a rather daggy old song that I have always loved.

I have just been putting together some snippets of video from our recent trip and the music I chose was "the lion sleeps tonight" by the Tokens.

As just about every second movie snippet is of lions it works perfectly. Even have a chameleon dancing to " a wimeway".

So now for me its now the old "Lion sleeps tonight"

Hi Everybody, Am I so old or are you all so young that nobody remembers the song "Baby elephant walk" Great hit many years ago, no words but a beautiful melody. Very nice to listen to when driving and if you close your eyes (please don't when you are driving} you will be able to see these magnificent animals slowly moving along. Regards Ronniec
