The first time i was in the Kruger Park, I was 4. Over the last 25yrs and 11 trips later, I have not once had any issues with safety and security of my personal items.
I only camped once, and even then, our tents were not moved, tampered or even our huts / bungalows opened besides the cleaning staff. I have been from Punda Maria to Olifants to Berg-En-Dal and never had an issue.
A lot of people see pre-1994 and post-1994 as difference and reasoning for up in security (in my opinion this is not a valid reason). I suppose (imop), the reasoning behind this is purely for liability and security for the parks itself. Just to show face in the unlikely event (thus T&C's apply and Indemnity is signed on entry).
Sure, a lot of us (lets be honest) have walked off with a bar of soap

The perception that the media has made over the years is little stupid and makes the reputation of places, like the Kruger Park etc look bad and will one day see the Park having to either sell off ground to private firms for commercialisation and thus making the experiences unhappy, and thus making it more difficult to enjoy because of the costs for the companies. Which, will result in the closure of some or all of it and thus lose a heritage for South Africa and most of Africa. I don’t want this.....
I would have to say, the Kruger Park, is the safest place ever for me and it reminds me of the old days when we stayed in Middleburg. Our security gate never worked, our front doors lock didn't work and we never had a front wall. We tented at night in the garden, making as if we were camping in the park
I have never heard or had any bad word from my friends about the Kruger Park and the safety.
Lols, sure, Baboons are the main culprits, but hey, how do you get someone to do a sketch on the one than broke into your unit?

the baboons.
Enjoy your trip and take tons of
