Both systems (Mozambique Channel storm 8 and Indian Ocean storm 7) now upgraded to tropical storms by CIMSS. The one in the Channel is expected to move fairly slowly towards Mozambique by initial estimates and needs to be monitored.

A lot can change - there is a possibility that it could dissipate - it is at this stage difficult to predict - one can only wait and watch .

I'm in the park at the moment - camping in Satara. Links are very slow and I'd rather sit outside and listen to the lions roar

Brief update on my visit so far. We had to evac from Maroela day before yesterday - yes, the Timbavati burst it's banks and flooded into the campsite along the fence. Not much damage though but in Tambotie ten tents as well as part of the fence washed away. Some people stayed overnight at a college camp close by, we where lucky to get one of the chalets at Orpen.

We left our caravan on higher ground for the night (in the middle of the road just where the road split to Tambotie) and got to Orpen via a back road guided by Richard (the section ranger). Some once-in-a-lifetime phodies will follow in my trip report when we get back in 11 days time. This morning Maroela was still very wet and the duty manager recommended we move to Satara where it will be safer.

Did that and took a drive out to see the damage done at Tshokwane - truly unbelievable.

Chat again soon

What is the weather like in Southern Kruger now?
The 7 day forecast says rain everyday! Are these likely to be fair days with a thunderstorm? or drizzly dark days?

Interesting to note the great variation in rainfall. Southern Kruger flooded, yet Skukuza only received 36 mm, which is two-thirds less than normal. Punda Maria had to settle for 35 mm, Pafuri Camp got 75, and EcoTraining just up the road from there 242 mm.
