Can someone from Sanparks please tell me why Afsaals price to hire a skottel is R25-00 and Mlondozi, and Nkhulu were R20-00. I know its just a R5-00 difference, but all of these sites are run by Sanparks, and one would have thought it would all be the same.

Just asking!

Fee I think that Afsaal is run as a concession and not by SANParks; I think that is why they are able to ask more for a skottel.

Afsaal used to be a concession but is now run by Sanparks. In fact, the place is looking very tired and rather shabby and is not what it used to be.

Oh,sorry Fee, I didn't realise that it had reverted to SANParks. Then I don't know why the skottels should be more at Afsaal. Maybe its a revenue thing.

Most of the skottels to hire at the picnics sites are worn and torn and tend to lean to one side once the skottel is placed on top.

We take our own skottel as I am concerned these worn skottels and pipes might leak and catch fire
perhaps being a bit paranoid but no taking a chance. :hmz:

Maybe the price was set at the higher rate when Nkulu was under external managment.
And now that it has come back under SANP, they have left the price as it was?

Seriously I can't see any excuse to have a different price.
Pity nobody from Sanparks can come back and answer.
And you right Ouma Biskuit, the condition of some of the skottels are not great.

Your query has been forwarded to SANParks PR, Fee.

I raised a similar question regards coffee a couple of years ago Fee and never got a response from Sanparks.

Prices for a cup of coffee varied hugely from camp to camp and this was when they were all Sanparks run.

I am not sure what the status is now with the various franchises operating and, as you say, only a few rand here or there so not an issue, more rather odd than anything. You would expect a similar or standard rate across the park.

I will find out in a few weeks when visiting there again....cannot wait!

That is very unfortunate indeed, it is always on our to do list when visiting the south.
