Thanks for that, our plan was to do our shopping in Komati and drive through from Croc bridge to Kruger gate, and settle at Burchels for the week, so is it better to stock up Kruger gate side and where ? would hate to get all supplies for the week and it gets taken at the gate ?

Blast do have a look Route through Swaziland
No problem at all taking foodstuff through from Komatipoort to Kruger Gate.
What we did this year was take a drive through to Hazyview the next day and buy all our provisions but then we had stayed in the park prior to this, so did have some basics for the first night.

Elsa was massively helpful in directing us last year through Swaziland - it was really easy in the end and we'll do the same thing again this year from Crocodile Bridge. Watch out for potholes near Siteki (we had about 20kms of slow driving), cattle in the road, numerous speed limit changes etc. We were stopped by friendly police at a roadblock for a driving license check. Apparently the border police check for meat products sometimes as they are not allowed into the country (we were not checked).

We passed through on a Saturday but there was no queue as we left Croc Bridge at 6am. Coming the other way, you will reach Golela/Lavumisa at a busier time of day, but I am sure all will be fine and easy.

Sushin, the best thing to do is read through the link I gave Blast in the posts above.
If you would like maps then please do send me your e-mail address by private message and I will be happy to send you them.
We have just travelled through Swaziland and apart from the potholed section Graham talked about there were no problems at all.
Please do ask if there are any further questions.

We always carry our alcohol through Croc Bridge gate to get to the timeshare at Paul Kruger Gate. All you need to do is to e mail the appropriate person in Sanparks who will forward a permit for this which you show them at the gate. Lesego has always been most helpful in supplying the name and e mail address of who is currently in charge of these permits.

There is a good Spar on the main road through Komatipoort. It has excellent meat, a good range of breads, as well as their own bakery. Useful for any forgotten items as well!

Driving (best route) to/from Kruger

Unread postby Safrica » Sun Aug 25, 2013 11:42 am

hello folks,

will be in KNP soon - can`t wait!

We are drivin from Malelane towards Jozini/Pongolapoort Dam.
Have driven through Swaziland before and would do that again (can`t remember which border though).
No Need to drive around via Piet Retief I guess.

Is the most advisable route via Mashekesheni (R571), Mhlume, Hlane and Big Bend?
Or via Jeppes Reef (R570), Mhlume, Hlane and Big Bend?
Or maybe even via Mbabane? Seems like a detour though.

Thanks for your advice!

Regards from Germany
Jochen
