The best for me that's in driving distance for you would be the H4-1 (Skukuza to Lower Sabie, which runs next to the Sabie River (the sand river is a tributary of the sabie if my memory is correct).

Remember that the early bird catches the worm leave camp at 6am if you can.

What are your arrival dates?

we arrive on the saturday, leaving JHB at 5am, so im hoping to be at pretoriuskop by 9.30 - 10am.

Then definately will be leaving every morning on sunday and monday @ 6am! (leave back to jhb on monday afternoon!)

On saturday we'll be doing a lekker afternoon drive!

Will i be allowed to check in at pretoriuskop before 2pm or should i just check in once i finished the afternoon game drive??

Where are you going to enter the park?

The shortest route is not always the best for first impressions

Hopefully someone from JHB can offer some advice on where to enter the park - We always enter at Crocodile Bridge, because it has the best game concentration for first impressions.

I would book in before the afternoon drive, check the sighting board for an indication of animal concentrations, unpack and go

Remember Gate closing times (on Sat it's still July - gate closes a 17:30, but August the next day - gate closes 18:00)

well i can either come in at nnumbi gate....as its the closest to Pkop....or even phabeni.....or paul kruger?

I have read that game around Pkop is fairly decent??

It's either Numbi or Phabeni that has a hairy stretch of road prior to getting to the park and I would advise that you give it a miss. (I live in KZN, so it's difficult to keep in touch with other routes)

Malelane Gate is an option, but hopefully JHB visitors will post some advice. There are also many threads offering advice on the best route from JHB.

Craigf86 - Why don't you rather spend your short time in Kruger. There is so much to see in the park that you will miss out on. Don't be late into the entrance or camps - you will be fined. The gates close at 5.30 in winter.
Drive around the Skukuza area to Lower Sabie. Guaranteed to see lots.
And you can buy a detailed map at the entrance to the park. Its worth it!!

lol the cheetah was one of our first sightings as we arrived through numbi gate, we drove on the H1-1 down to Shitlhave Dam and as we got there the cheetah had just walked off the road into the bush and we couldnt get any pictures.....the next morning we drove there again and sure enough the cheetah walked out right in front of us

My wife and I intend to visit kruger park for the first time in september at the moment it isbetween 9th-14th sept and would appreciate any advice for first timers like ourselves.
We have visited SA before so my initial question is which camps we should choose and which particular order would you visit in.

Lucky you! Getting to see the park for the first time...how wonderful!

Given you've got 5 nights I would try to spilt it into 2 camps so you have a chance to explore the areas around each one withoutn worrying about moving accommodation.

If it was me I would try for Lower Sabie and Satara as my camps.

Lower Sabie - because of the settioing by the river...always magical. Also there is a plethora of game in all directions - head up Eloff St to Skukuza, going South towards Croc Bridge or heading to Muntshe and Mlondozi.

Satara because it is also great for sightings but so different from the geography at Lower Sabie. the S100 is legendary, it's close enough to head to Oliphants and the Vutomi Rd is always worth a run!!

Whatever you choose - you'll have an amazing time!! ENJOY!!

Not a bad choice of camps....
But I'd opt for Satara and Skukuza. From Skukuza you can do the whole south, 270 degrees, and around Skuks there is a ton of game.

Definitely Lower Sabie and Satara. Skukuza is great for game viewing but just to busy for me

It is always very exciting to see predators. It is always very thrilling for me. Is this the kind of action you would like, or are you more a birder?

September is a great month to visit for sightings, as the animals often have to seek water at waterholes and dams.
