I really miss Kruger

Unread postby skywalker2251 » Thu May 23, 2013 7:35 pm

It's been far too long since I've been (6 months), and I have no idea of when my next trip is, but it probably won't be this year. :(

I'm having some serious withdrawal today and I'm not sure there's any cure.

I don't think there is a cure :( , but planning your next trip (even when not sure when it will be) is great fun, Skywalker :D

I agree with Matthys, plan your next dream trip even though you don't have dates. Plan a trip to Kgalagadi, too, or one of the other parks.

Catch up by writing a trip report if you haven't written one. It's a good way to stir up your memories. If you're all caught up, turn it into a photo book.

Read some of the older trip reports, the locked up ones that are condensed...easier to read a lot quicker.

Buy some new camera equipment and test it out at a zoo or on the local inhabitants.

I know the feeling, so sorry.

Sorry to hear you are having a bad day, skywalker2251. It's awful being homesick! I agree with Matthys and Chickadee though, plan your next trip or write a trip report of one of your previous trips - it really is the next best thing to being in the park again - it is amazing how the memories all come flooding back again!

All good ideas. Maybe I'll work on some old photos when I get home from work :)

I'm not quite sure how this is going to come across, so please don't shoot me if you don't agree with me, or how I go about things...

But after a trip to Kruger, I tend to stay off the Forum. There is nothing that makes me "home sick" more than reading other people's stories, and seeing their sightings and photos.

The minute I plan my next trip, I'm on the Forum permanently, building up the excitement! I booked accommodation 2 weeks ago for our annual trip in August, and that's why you'll see me here daily until then! :D

I miss the smell the smell of the bungalows :(

I miss driving around slowly and taking everything in :(

The only way to deal with the feeling of "homesickness" is to book another trip as soon as you come out the park (according to me), we were very priviledged in 2012 to be able to have 2 visits within a matter of 5 months, this year we are only able to go in December for 3 weeks,December is still a way off BUT our accommodation is already paid for,our "Kruger corner" in the pantry is starting to fill up and we have even be able to buy a new "Kruger car", by doing all these things makes the trip to paradise seem just around the corner even if it is still 7 months away

Andrea, I hope that brightens your birthday. 8)

Even though I don't live that far, there are some bad, bad days.

I often page through some of my Kruger books. I find that it helps a little bit. I also dream about... one day.. my dream trip.

Thanks MM :-) it certainly does! We are staying 15 days in the park this time, our longest stay to date so cannot wait to get out there and have more adventures :D

I know the feeling Skywalker, so glad to hear I am not the only one who gets the missing Kruger blues! Was there in June last year and also have no next date to look forward to and often find myself paging through my Kruger books and looking at the fotos :) I have definite withdrawal symptoms! Meandering Mouse, sounds like you've also done it a few times  We are all addicted I think  Well, I know I am!

And Guzz, don't worry, I do that too! Glad you have a visit to look forward to!

I must agree it is pure torment some days to sit on the forum and read. But to be honest I will be back everyday just to see whats news. I also sit and work days and have moments where I lose myself on the forum before a supervisor walks past. Luckily my computer screen always faces away from the walkway otherwise I would have been fired many months ago I feel. Also there is always one of the three volumes of Dr. Salmon Joubert's: Kruger National Park, A history in my desk drawer. They are such a great read and after a few pages of that it feels like a quick ride through the park. Sometimes a lose myself so deeply in thought is as though I can smell the thatch at Punda or that the pungent plant when you are on the H7 going to Satara when it meanders close to the Timbavati River.

Unless otherwise stated I am constantly missing the KNP.
If I were to have a status on a dating site it would be MUST LOVE KRUGER. I honestly think I would trade any holiday for time in Kruger

I really sympathize Skywalker. :( I know the feeling only too well.

I had a wonderful trip planned and booked for September/October this year but had to cancel it as, after almost 3 long years, I finally have court dates, for the end of August, for my divorce...........which is costing me a small fortune, in legal fees, so I just can't afford to go.............and don't know when or if I will ever be able to go again. It really broke my heart to have to cancel my trip.

I have spent many wonderful hours planning another trip, just in case!!!! It definitely helps a bit. A girl can dream can't she? It keeps me going.........gives me something to take my mind off any negatives I am dealing with too.

You too should try it.
