I am going to give the answer because my question posted in a bird quiz remains unanswered for more than a month.

The answer is the Black-chested Snake Eagle or if you are Portuguese speaking, it is the Aguia-cobreira-de-peito-preto

Anyone with a challenging question, please throw it at us.

It might be easy, but just to get it going again. .....

Which animal's sound can be described as a "sawing" sound?

Panthera pardus.
KNP is sacred. I am opposed to the modernisation of Kruger and from the depths of my soul long for the Kruger of yesteryear! 1000+km on foot in KNP incl 56 wild trails.200+ nights in the wildernessndloti-indigenous name for serval.

Unless one is familiar with bird calls and or stays elsewhere than tourist camps this may be difficult to answer .

Which bird call which is often heard at dawn may be mistaken for that of the Verreauxs eagle owl ?

That makes four of us. If it is the shrill whine that is sometimes heard, it could possibly be one of the korhaans?

If you are in KTP and you think you hear a fiery-necked night jar...What bird are you actually hearing?

Nope. The PCG's call sounds like melodious bagpipes.

S Pale Chanting Goshawk is rather silent, but during breeding season, we can hear series of melodious whistling calls rapidly repeated “klueee-kli-kli-kli-kli-klip-kleeeep” usually uttered at dawn, while perched or flying.
We can also hear a long, drawn-out and high-pitched “kleeeeee-u, kleeeeee-u” at distinct intervals.

From WikiPedia: This is generally a rather quiet bird, but during the breeding season the male makes a series of tuneful whistling calls kleeuu, kleeuu-ku-ku-ku from a tree-top perch.

:) or is the net information wrong?
If I agreed with you we'd both be wrong.
