This is controversial and so I'd say 'myth'. While it is true that each human year is estimated to be equivalent to seven dog years, this varies with breed and circumstances. Also, some think that, for the first (human) calendar year of the dog's life, this is equivalent to 15 years for the dog. Thereafter, things tail down towards 7:1.

Myth

As OWN indicated, dogs age differently, depending on their breed and stage of life.

My dog is 8 human years old, and I think she thinks she's still a puppy. It's a Labrador

The dog years vs human years differs from breed to breed.

WFG, as long as she's helathy, she can age gracefully into her teens.

My take on it is "myth".

The 1 to 7 ratio that is commonly used does not make a lot of sense. A dog is sexually mature somewhere between 10 to 12 months old which would mean that in human terms they would be bearing babies at 7 not 15 to 17 as is actually the case (not taking into account the aberrations of kids of 13 have babies!). As OWN pointed out, from there it really appears to be a sldiing scale down to the point where it is around the 7:1. This would cover most breeds.

Good on you OWN - take it away

In fact, TP, Cesar Milan, the famous "dog-whisperer", has suggested on his website that one should calculate the age of a dog as follows: subtract two from the dog's age, then multiply that value by four, and finally add on 21. Which then makes our awesome bulldog, Tessie, only 65; when we would genuinely like to consider her as 91, which is more like the elderly lady's true age, we believe.

Fact...

Any food that is high in potassium naturally contains potassium-40 and is slightly, but significantly radioactive.
