It is indeed a myth. Nature is the force that prevents the Springbok from being in KNP and surrounds.

There have been attempts to trans-locate them to places similar to KNP, but ultimately this has proved unsuccessful.

Currently is yes, a myth. The original meaning seems to have been lost in time

But it is late 18th century: from Afrikaans koedoe, from Xhosa/Koisan i-qudu
