OWN, I will go first then with the explanation.

I say it is a fact and it can be explained by the Coriolis effect and the conservation of angular momentum as explained http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coriolis_effect

It is the same reason why cyclones rotate like they do in different parts of the world.

Based on the answers I see here, I cannot actually award an IT as yet, as no-one actually has the answer correct. :wall: :wall:

Dr Phil, the Coriolis Effect is an excellent try, but actually applies mainly to weather phenomena, like tornadoes.

Anyone else willing to throw in their tuppence-worth? I want to award this question to someone ... And I'd hate to go with guesswork. :hmz:

OWN, is it not just the Coriolis effect on a smaller scale. Which is basically the conservation of angular momentum?

Myth. It is all about the outlet pipe.

Thank you for participating Rooies, WFG, Heksie, Dr Phil, Picnic, and - a great welcome to our newest quizzer    - Peter Lalin!

Dr Phil, the Coriolus Effect is actually too weak to influence water spinning down a drain. In fact, this question is indeed a MYTH because, as Picnic rightly notes, it is the geometry of the outlet pipe that determines the direction of spin of the water! I always believed this myth as a child, but couldn't get uniformity when letting the water run out of the bath. :wall:

Which means PICNIC is IT.

 It was only a shot in the dark.

Black mamba is the longest venomous snake in Africa averaging around 2.5 to 3.2 m (8.2 to 10 ft) in length, and sometimes growing to lengths of 4.45 m (14.6 ft). F or M?

Fact....

I have seen one close to 5m close to the reception in Mopani. It was almost as long as the road is wide. And it was at night

Picnic it was very scary, At least we had a torch. The people walking behind us didn't have one and I don't even want to think what would have happened if they stepped on that monster.

OK Fact or Myth: If running constitutes that 2 or more feet be off the ground at any given time for a 4 legged animal. Then Elephants can only walk fast, 40km/h fast. As they cannot have 2 feet of the ground at any given time while moving.

I thought about that as well but does 2 feet leave the ground? Now that is something to ponder about... :hmz:
