Would you have started at Nkokodzi?

OK before Wall-E accuses me of being pedantic again - I'll give it to you Johan - the waterhole at the start is Nkokodzi and the end is Tshanga - well done Johan

Ok, we start at Nkokodzi waterhole. In the area is a big herd of buffalo's, actually named after the Nkokodzi spruit. During a research project in 1999 a sample taken from a cow from this herd confirmed, for the first time, that TB had spread north of the Letaba. We make our way north on the H1-6 to Shingwedzi and turn left onto the R52. Stopping quickly at Red Rocks we go on towards Bateleur. Keeping left, missing the road that goes back to Red Rocks on the other side of the river and then also keeping left, missing the limited access road to Bateleur (my pic incorrectly says S52 - should still be the R52 :wall: ). Here we reach Tshanga lookout where Guinea Pig took this pic:

Ndloti has found a small ledge out of sight for people standing at Tshanga, which could cause some consternation, thinking his vehicle was abandoned. He could sit here the entire day without people even knowing that he's there

Good morning

Level of knowledge on this Forum is staggering!

Nungu, the ease with which Johan and TP unraveled this one means you will have to become pedantic again!

Good thread, keep it up!

I can't believe they say that San rock paintings of Roan or Sable were found here... I've never seen the paintings, let alone a Roan or Sable!!! I continue south and turn left again. Only a couple of minutes later I reach a dam, but it's pretty dry. Not much to see at the junction, I turn right heading down south again. Keep straight. I have to stop often as game is everywhere - I've seen Giraffe, Impala, Warthog, Zebra, Waterbuck and a Water Monitor in the last 5kms. I don't turn right and immediately get a feeling that I'm being followed... looking to my right I realise why.... I continue to the next turnoff and turn south again - keep going south :wall: 4kms and I find another dam. This one is full of water and plenty of game.

Nungu, Nkokodzi was indeed the name of the waterhole I was looking for this morning. :)

I would say that you started from the rocks on the H1-1, just off the H3, then went to Renosterkoppies dam, probably saw the train to your right and ended up at Mpondodam. :hmz:

Well done Johan - and I thought this one would be difficult!!!!

I'm not sure you have the starting point correct - the Koppie on the H1-1 is Granokop... I'm starting at Renosterkoppies on the S22. Aparently they found San rock paintings here of either a Sable or Roan dating back about 3000 years.... I've never seen it though  and I've never seen Roan or Sable this far south either  Anyways, Leaving Renosterkoppies I turn south and then left at the S112. Turn right at Renosterkoppies dam onto the S114. Go past the S21 and on this stretch I see all the animals. Just after the Water Monitor the S114 goes off to the right and keeping straight I'm now on the H5 Randspruit Road. This is where the Selati railway line is now on my right (well done Johan  ). Continue for 13 kms and the S102 Mpondodam turnoff is on my right. About halfway down I get to Mpondodam.

Pumbaa took this great pic at Mpondo:

Hi Nungu

Your departure point should be Klipspringerkoppies

Hi Wall-E,

Is that tongue-in-cheek... or are you serious?

My map says Renosterkoppies :hmz:

Hi Nungu

Serious (this time!). Klipspringerkoppies is close to the junction of the Pretoriuskop/Malelane junction (about 3 km south of Granokop) and from there your leads work out,
Renosterkoppies are located at the Renosterkoppiesdam on the Malelane dirt road (S114 I think)

Hi TP

Your map carries all the new names, hence no mention of Granokop, Klipspringer- and Renosterkoppies. Utterly confusing!

I do not see Tshwane on your map though...

Nope, disagree Wall-E.... I think you disagree with my directions, more than the starting point. What you have to remember is that I include subtle directions to confuse you... have a look at this Google map of Renosterkoppies (on the S22 near the dam) ...

You'll see that there is a small road that won't be shown on a map. Here are my directions shown on google maps (direction points in yellow):
1. I continue south (on S22)
2. and turn left again. (at S112 junction)... note the "again" - implying you should've turned left onto the S22
3. I turn right heading down south again. (onto S114)
4. Keep straight. (miss the S21)
Image
5. I don't turn right (Onto H5)
6. I continue to the next turnoff and turn south again (onto S102)
7. 4kms and I find another dam.(Mpondodam)
Image
Here is the location of Klipspringer Koppies you're referring to vs Renosterkoppies:

I agree with Wall-E TP... utterly confusing... I mean, what's up with "Shirimantanga"... never heard of it... it's Renosterkoppies Dam !!!! :wall:
