I am soooo excited - I just went outside and there was a break in the clouds overhead and I saw Sirius directly overhead!!

Cannot see anything to the West or North - Clouds and more clouds, but I will keep looking every night

 Waffles with Maple Syrup only available from Curious Canadian and compatriots

Jungle Junkie: my friend, you are doing the most important thing on this quiz - you are coaxing your body out into the black yonder and actually LOOKING UP AT THE STARS!!!   That is the secret, and the quickest way you will learn. Keep being a top student!

Anyone else want to take a slinger at what the three stars are called?

Thanks for the post, joshilewis. If you know where Rigel and Betelgeuse are, then it the three bright stars close together smack-bang between them that I am talking about! They have both a more formal name, and then a couple of informal names, depending on where you come from.

Sounds like Orion's belt/Three Kings?
Smiling is contagious. Start an epidemic today!

Have you read the entrance permit? Do you KNOW the Conditions of Entry?

Ok, I looked it up.

Alnitak, Alnilam and Mintaka

Also found out what an asterism is along the way.

And, the formal name of Alnitak, Alnilam and Mintaka is? (The complicated names of the three stars we'll leave for the Advanced Stargazing Quiz, as will the term "asterism". But glad you learnt something new, joshilewis!)

Zeta Orionis, Epsilon Orionis, and Delta Orionis :)
Which is pretty boring in my opinion :P (but hopefully easier to remember in my next FGASA exam)
