The answer to no 4. is:

A mountain pass was named after him

OK, seems nobody has read Memories of a Game Ranger. Answers are:

1. Abel Erasmus was nicknamed Madabula
2. Meaning is "The one who shoots"
3. He was the Native Commissioner early in the 20th century.
4. The moutain pass between Lydenburg and Tzaneen - the preferred route by many to Orpen Gate (from Gauteng) - The JG Strijdom tunnel is part of this pass.

I am busy reading African Eden by James Stevenson-Hamilton , he describes Abel Erasmus as undoubtably the best marksman of all in the lowveld at the time of Bill Sanderson and others , when shooting parties were regularly organised and it was considered dishonourable to shoot at any small game unless it was fleeing .

What is the name of the Kruger elephant which is now considered to have the biggest tusks. Living elephant, I must add.

Now where is Aat and the other elephant specialists? I must add that according to the folks at the Elephant Museum at Letaba, there are currently 2 contenders, 1 with the longest tusks and 1 with the heaviest tusks.

I seem to struggle to stay on-line long enough to post, and now that I can I don't know the answer!
Was in the museum last year, but I really cannot remember the names of the longest and heaviest! The booklet we got landed in my friend's hands. Perhaps I should have kept it! I can't seem to get the information any other place! Mind you, I will definitely do a more thorough study in April!
