"The Gemsbok (Oryx) is well adapted to the harsh arid and semi-arid environments of the region, with Morphological dentition features enabling both grazing and browsing, and remarkable thermo-regulatory physiology that prevents dehydration in these environments".

Good detail Philip1, however I am looking for something different in terms of 'arid' adaptation!

"Gemsbok can derive almost all the water they need from the food they eat, and if they can maintain a healthy diet, and not get ill, then they might never need to drink fresh water. But what do gemsbok eat? Their habitat can be quite desolate, however, where there are grasses the gemsbok will be found grazing. They are also quite adaptable with their diets and will browse on leafy plants if grasses are unavailable and in times of severe drought and food scarcity, they will dig up roots and tubers from the ground using their hooves; they will also do this to expose ground water hidden under the top soil".

More?

I also read that when they're in the sun they turn their bodies so less are in the sun and more in the wind to control the heat like this they also prefer staying in shade and would even lie on the cooler sand...

"Porcupines mate in a very bizarre way. They first begin their ludicrous lovemaking with some nose rubbing. If the female accepts the nose rubbing and, after the initial nose rubbing test, the female is still keen on the male, the male will then stand on its hind legs and the female allows him to urinate all over her body"

Just a bit of info about Porcupines elswhere......The North American porcupine often climbs trees to find food.
