Blue Pea (Libeckia linearifolia)

This blue shrub's nutritional value does not diminish as it ages. Insects consume even the dead plant material from this shrub. Livestock do not eat the Blue Pea and it remains untouched in the veldt where cattle feed. It is however, an important food for the black Parastizopus bug and plays a vital role in this insect's life cycle.

One of the water holes between Nossob and Union's End is called "Bedinkt", why this strange name?

After World War 1 was over, Scottish born Rodger “Malkop” Jackson surveyed the region and a theoretical subdivision was made into farms of 10 200 and 12 800 hectares. Jackson named many of the farms after landmarks in homeland Scotland, most of which are still in use today as boreholes in the Park. Several white farmers settled as borehole caretakers along the Auob River and they stayed rent-free as long as the boreholes were kept in good repair. ...

This corridor was never used to invade South West Africa and the borehole guards stayed on, largely forgotten by the authorities. Instead, the Government appointed a Scottish land surveyor Rodger “Malkop” Duke Jackson to survey the area and divide it into farms. ...

Bedinkt: Omdat die tsammas op was, het landmeter Jackson hom hier bedink om met sy wa en span osse verder te trek./ Because the tsammas were finished Jackson had a re-think at this point if he should proceed with his oxen.

LQ, a hearty welcome to the quizzes.   It has been such a great learning experience for me.

As Elzet doesn't insist on being IT, I have the chance to sneak back into this quiz with a new question. Or so I hope at least.
I did read along all posts at some point and think this questions hasn't been asked yet. If not so, I apologize.

Why is it that the KTP lions look bigger than those in KNP?
Summer 2014 - Oz! It was awesome!

LS, how nice to see you sneaking in here.

The KTP lions are not bigger than the KNP lions... But they do appear bigger. This is because of their lovely large manes. In KNP the thornbushes tend to pull out and shorten a lot of their hair, so they don't look nearly as impressive as the manes of the Kalahari lions. With these big manes - the Kalahari lions LOOK bigger. The Kalahari lions also have a muscular build - because of the large territories within which they move, but this also means they burn more energy. The KTP lions are more muscular due to the dune they walk (they get much more exercise that those in Kruger).
