Blimey, that was quick!

Glad you like the word OWN - very descriptive I thought. As long as you don't try and do what the hippo does after eating you should be OK

Right, both of you, so, as OWN did - over to either of you - first to post.

That's a lot of question-marks, Dellac. And justifiably so. I'm going to answer False and False, or Double-False: False, because elephants do not undergo menopause in the correct definition of the word; and False, because certain species of whales and, as noted by TP, humans, do undergo menopause.

Hi dellac - it's true / false so we don't really have to say who.

Menopause as the "end of monthly cycles" are experienced by many mammals, but humans, pilot whales and killer whales are generally considered to show true signs of menopause. Many animals show signs of declining fertility to a point of zero, including chimpanzees and gorillas but they don't live for much longer past this point. The 3 mammals named above can still live a healthy and productive life beyond the point of reaching zero fertility rather than simply becoming infertile and dying.

There are instances of other mammals showing signs of menopause, including elephants, but I believe these were all captive so are not considered representative of the species as a whole.

I assume we're talking about female animals here, Dellac?

I don't know OWN, there's quite a few of the male h.sapiens around here that are going through menopause - based on the number of old frats in sports cars with young females parked next to them  :hmz:

:hmz: It seems as if we are still waiting for Dellac with a final answer?
