Perhaps someone else can ask a Q in Markus's absence, Rosemary?

The top, the middle, and the bottom.

No, actually the head, the thorax, and the abdomen. Gosh, I remember doing that in primary school.

Name five factors that have distinguished insects in terms of their amazing ability to survive in all types of conditions over the globe for millions of years.

 "It is believed that insects are so successful because they have (1) a protective shell or exoskeleton, (2) they are small, and (3) they can fly. Their small size and ability to fly permits escape from enemies and dispersal to new environments. Because they are small they (4) require only small amounts of food and can (5) exist in very small niches or spaces. In addition, insects can produce large numbers of offspring relatively quickly. Insect populations also possess considerable genetic diversity and a great potential for adaptation to different or changing environments".

:hmz: :hmz:

This is a guess but...

Their amazing ability to adapt permits them to live in extreme ranges of temperatures and environments.
Insects can survive on a wide range of natural and artificial foods.
Because they are small, they can hide in tiny spaces.
A strong, hard but flexible shell called an exoskeleton covers their soft organs and is resistant to chemicals, water and physical impact.
Their wings give them the option of flying away from dangerous situations or toward food or mates.
Insects have an enormous reproductive capacity: A honey bee queen lays as many as 4,000 eggs a day, and an African termite queen can lay as many as 43,000 eggs a day.

Philip and Phokojwe.   Absolutely correct. Which is why insects may one day inherit the world when mankind is done annihilating it. :hmz:
