Unread postby Batmad » Tue Dec 23, 2008 10:04 pm

This quiz is related to South Africas animals dung.

Now this may sound sick but it is acctually interesting!!

So it is a revolving quiz and the questions have to be related to a South African animals dung.

Here is the 1st question........

Interesting quiz Batmad!

Umm, would you normally find undigested vegetation in elephant dung? e.g. grass, bark, twigs etc..

You are hiking through a rocky outcrop and come across a dung midden. It could belong to one of many species, but these droppings are elongated and tapered at both ends. Who does this dung midden belong to?

Not genet (and not in the order Carnivora)

"You are hiking through a rocky outcrop"

The pellets are 0.5-1 cm long

Klipspringer pellets are more elongated and tapered than those of rock rabbits, dassies and mountain reedbuck which share the habitat.

1 - Hyena's have both very powerful jaws and an efficient digestive system, the end result being that they can derive nourishment from entire carcasses including the bones.

2- Bones contain large amounts of calcium, so hyena droppings are white due to the excessive amounts of calcium that are passed through their system.
