Thank you Philip1 :gflower:

Q: Which person was known as a broom in the local language, and which camp was named after him?
I guess it's pretty easy.

New to the forums and have just discovered the Quiz boards ... great idea.

This question refers to James Stevenson-Hamilton and the translation of "the broom" was from the Tsonga word Skukuza. This was not thought to be a flattering nickname as speculation indicates there was bitterness from the Tsonga as a result of being relocated from their lands in the interest of developing the Kruger.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone and apologies for the delayed response. I suppose I should have read the rules before posting then disappearing for two weeks. :-)

My question ...

Which waterhole between Crocodile Bridge and Lower Sabie also doubles as the name of a past tusker who was frequently seen in the area?

P.S. This is not a question about Duke.

Nice one, Philip.

Probably a little too easy but I wanted to get a question right up after becoming aware of my previous delay. Next time I'm going to the pictures. :D

Your question, Philip.

Hi Philip1 and SjK,

I have not been in this thread for quite a while, but was interested to read that Gomondwane was the name of a tusker that used to frequent the area. Maybe I have misunderstood the question, but according to my books of reference, Gomondwane was a person who lived in the area in 1906, according to James Stevenson-Hamilton.

I will be very interested to hear where your photo was taken Philip1, as I'm sure I have never seen that building before. :wall:

Hi Chip - nice to "see" you here :D

The tusker was named after the waterhole which was named after the person you read about

Origin of Name: Named after the Gomondwane waterhole, found halfway between Lower Sabie and Crocodile Bridge on the H4-2 (According to Stevenson Hamilton, the name was that of as person who lived in the area in 1906. Kloppers & Bornman (2005).

See here Past Tusker Gomondwane
As for Philip1's photo :hmz: also can't recall ever seeing it. :)
