I agree. Most hybrids like these are sterile, and so could be killed off, but then reappear in a new generation of cross-breeding. Mules are just one example, another would be a liger or tigon!

That's the problem, Philip. reading the Q carefully means strange punctuation that doesn't seem to add up. :hmz: If the animal is killed off, then obviously it becomes extinct. But it miraculously resurrects itself? :wall: Must be a play on words. I think that maybe this is something to do with an animal that metamorphoses from one state to another, and so called different things despite ultimately being the same species. :hmz: :hmz:

Not sure what the one-year gap is all about, but ... :hmz:

Wait a minute (or a year :wink: ), perhaps if all adults were killed, progeny in a hibernation state could later hatch and then become the adult again? Maybe a cocoon? A caterpillar and a butterfly or moth maybe?? Still not sure about the year thing though, as various species differ in the length of their chrysalis stage.

OWN - but even then they would still part of the same species, just one of the stages of development. So technically it would not be extinct.
