Then that would be one of the Num-num family!

We have five species of which four have Y-shaped spines.

Dangerous: ...

Name one plant used by the San people in producing poisons for their arrows, and describe how it was used (prepared) ... if you can.

I seem to recall that they use the juice of the milkwort (euphorbia) as one of their poisons - I'm assuming straight up but I would'nt know the full details :|

We agree with the Euphorbia, but wasn't it cooked with the larvae of a poisonous beetle? :hmz:

Euphorbia was sometimes used. But it only formed a part of the poison since it was not potent enough on its own.

Any other ideas?

Lets try again:
How about bushman poison (Adenium boehmianum)?
Tuber are boiled to a syrup after the flowering. This one don't need a "beetle juice" booster.

Adenium boehmianum is an extremely effective poison used by the San in Namibia. It does not occur in SA, but has some family here in the form of the well know, an not nearly as poisonous Impala lily.

The poison of the Impala lily is derived from its bark and trunk, and is used in combination with other poisons. Also used as a fish poison, by throwing the crushed plant in to a small pond of water.

Although all parts of this indigenous plant are deadly to humans and animals, porcupines are reported to love it’s tubers. Some people even use it for medicinal purposes. This should of course not be done without proper medical supervision!
Name the plant.
