A wild guess- 10 000?

No ... to the contrary, this particular rodent is monogamous ... not a very common occurrence amongst mammals! :)

The female porcupine is sexually receptive for only 8 to 12 hours per year. The male sprays her with urine from a distance and if she is ready to mate, she will allow it. If not, she will shake the urine off and run away.

Not true. Though females usually give berth only once a year, captive animals have had litters twice a year. Also, should a female loose her young, she can conceive again in a matter of a few weeks.

Ovulation is stimulated through sexual intercourse. Females held in captivity without males, stopped ovulating.

Also the urination takes place after the female has excepted the males advance.

Afraid I am still looking for the correct answer ...
