Yes, MD ... Andrew Smith indeed!

Smith was a Scottish doctor who was invited by the Governor of the Cape, Lord Charles Somerset, to establish the South African Museum in Cape Town in 1825. Smith travelled for 13 years, collecting specimens for the museum. He eventually published a monumental work, The Zoology of South Africa, in which he detailed the 26 species of South African frogs then known, 14 of which had been discovered by Smith himself.

The micro frog is the smallest frog in South Africa. It is in danger of becoming extinct. One reason is because of loss of habitat.
What is the other reason for this and where do you find them.

The Micro Frog is found in four known subpopulations in fynbos wetlands of the Western Cape in a total area of only around 10 km-squared!
Loss of habitat through urban encroachment is one reason for their critically endangered status.
Secondly, the tadpoles of this frog take from June until December every year to metamorphose and, in that time, their breeding pans sometimes dry up.

 These frogs tend to be very small, even when adult. The young frogs are in fact not much bigger than an insect.

Frogs deter predators by exuding noxious and even poisonous secretions from their skin. Somehow water mongoose is not affected by this, and happily feast on frogs. How do they achieve this?

The poisonous frogs secrete toxic substances from glands located on the upper skin to deter predators. The water mongoose flips the frog over and consumes it from underneath, thereby avoiding the toxic upper parts.
