Most frogs eggs are counter shaded what does this mean and why do they display this phenomenon

Eich, I cannot allow that! It is such a good question.

Counter shading: It is when the top part of an animal (in this case an egg) is a different colour or shade than the bottom part. Usually the top is darker and the bottom is lighter. You often find this in aquatic species.

Aquatic species use this to avoid detection by predators. When seen from above, the darker top hides the animal against the dark bottom of the water body. When seen from below, the lighter bottom blends the animal in to the light coming from above, allowing it to escape detection. :wink:
