One of the pair points robustly outward and forward while the other curves back and inwards in the opposite direction. Thank you for the info Philip! It so happens to be one of my favourite trees. Blue waxbills nest in this tree and I am a huge fan of birds. The often make their nests from drop seed grass.

I have another double whammy! Two tree names needed! :big_eyes:

Name another tree with conspicuously forked spines that is a perennial favourite of blue waxbills...

And...

Location based question: One of my favourite trees grows here. The tar road approach to the Southern most Baobab. In addition to some lovely tall Apple Leafs and Jackalberries another large growing tree with dense dark evergreen canopy is found next to the road. Which one is it?

Blue waxbills prefer Acacia tortilis,Umbrella thorn.

Trichilia emetica, Natal Mahogany is one of your favourites ?

If you go to Chimanimani you will notice an abundance, Mutare is surrounded by these trees, the Venda know of a place where these trees are found in South africa.
